Season 10 Volume 2
Hawks Open Season with 107-58 Win Over Glendale
Santiago Canyon College opened the 2026-27 season in impressive fashion on Thursday, October 29, rolling to a 107-58 victory over Glendale College at the SCC Gym. The Hawks showcased their offensive depth, unselfish play, and defensive activity in a strong all-around performance to begin the new campaign 1-0.
SCC had six players score in double figures, led by Nick Giarrusso and Caleb Peele with 16 points apiece. Giarrusso was outstanding in his season debut, shooting 6-of-9 from the field, including 3-of-6 from beyond the arc, while pulling down nine rebounds. Peele provided a spark off the bench, going 8-of-10 from the floor for 16 points, eight rebounds, four assists, three steals, and a block. Christien Jimenez added 11 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and four steals, while Marcus Fernandez contributed 11 points off the bench. Kingston Birdsong also scored 11, and Jacob De Armas and Dominic Bolton chipped in nine points each.
The Hawks' offensive execution was a highlight, as the team shot 55.4% from the field and knocked down 16 three-pointers. More importantly, SCC recorded 31 assists on 41 made field goals, reflecting the team's commitment to sharing the basketball and creating opportunities for one another. The Hawks also controlled the glass with a 53-31 advantage in total rebounds and forced Glendale into a difficult evening with 12 steals and three blocked shots. With contributions throughout the lineup, SCC demonstrated the depth and balance that will be important as the season progresses.
Opening night was an encouraging first step for a Hawks team with high expectations for the 2026-27 season. While there is plenty of work ahead, the combination of balanced scoring, team-oriented basketball, and defensive activity provided a solid foundation to build upon. Santiago Canyon looks forward to carrying that momentum into its upcoming schedule as the Hawks play at MiraCosta College on Wednesday, November 4th and at Chaffey College on Friday, November 6th.
