Weekly Newsletter 2/6/26
Hello and happy Friday!
We had a great week at SCS. It was nice to have five days to get back into the rhythm of things and have a relatively “normal” schedule. The winter activities were very fun, from skiing at Rikert, to stomping through the woods to find animal tracks and shelters, to playing on the snowbanks during recess. Thank you to all the volunteers, Rikert staff and guest trackers for helping bring these worthwhile experiences to students.
Below you’ll see information about our school-wide Read-a-Thon which starts on Wednesday. We have the combined schools Band and Chorus concert with Shoreham, Weybridge and Salisbury students performing together in the SCS gym on Tuesday night, and many more fun activities to come before the February break. As part of the Read-a-Thon, we are excited to welcome VT graphic novelist, Dan Abdo, to SCS to present to the students. If you are interested in buying one of his books, we’ve been given a QR code to Amazon, where the books are available. He’s happy to sign books when he comes to visit on Friday, February 13th. There will also be a Great Book Giveaway this Wednesday where students will get a stack of books to take home and keep. I look forward to seeing students with a book in hand, eager to read!
Thanks to all the parents/guardians who use the green Go Home notes to communicate their child’s after school plans. Email is also very helpful. Please remember to communicate any absences or adjusted schedules with the front office. Parents/guardians picking students up from school must make sure a staff person has seen them.
Thanks for reading and have a great weekend,
Tracey
The Week in Photos
The k-2nd graders had a fun time snowshoeing around the woods looking for signs of animals. Special thanks to Ms. Rachel, Ms. Whit, Mr. Jim and Mr. Ira for helping students learn more about animal tracks in the winter.

Last ski day special snack
We are looking for 1-2 parents to help us prepare and serve hot chocolate to the 3rd - 5th graders after their last time skiing at Rikert this Thursday. The kids are back from skiing and in the barn at 11:00. Please let Donna or Tracey know if you can help.
SCS Read-a-thon: Reach for the Stars!
Please look over the information about the upcoming Read-a-thon at SCS. Students have set their personal reading goals and each class has a target number of minutes to work towards between 2/11 and 3/2. The kick off on Wednesday will include a Great Book Giveaway --where students will be given up to 5 books! Thanks for helping encourage your child to read at home and reach for their goals!
Opt-In to receive text alerts
In the case of unexpected changes in the bus schedule/route or the day’s schedule (due to inclement weather or other unexpected events), I will send a text alert out to families through our School Messenger system. We were made aware earlier this week that parents need to “opt in” to receive these texts. Please follow the steps below to register your cellphone with School Messenger if you have not been receiving my texts yet.

FOSCS Fundraiser --High Mowing Seeds!
Students were sent home with an order form this week for High Mowing's most popular seeds and seed combinations. Students are encouraged to ask family members, neighbors and friends to purchase seeds for the coming spring & summer between now and February 18th.
Seeds will arrive in plenty of time (March) to start indoors on window sills or will keep just fine until the snow melts and gardens are ready for planting.
Gardening’s not your thing? Consider purchasing some seeds as a gift for the special gardener in your life. Mother’s Day, perhaps? High Mowing seeds are certified organic and non-GMO, so while you’re helping FOSCS, you’re also growing delicious, home-grown organic produce and beautiful gardens!
Order forms are due back at school on Wednesday, February 18th.
