National Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month
May is National Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month (also known as Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month), an annual celebration that recognizes the historical and cultural contributions of individuals and groups of Asian and Pacific Islander descent to the U.S. The AAPI umbrella term includes cultures from the entire Asian continentβincluding East, Southeast and South Asiaβand the Pacific Islands of Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia. The H-F Library has gathered books and resources for the school and community to celebrate this special month β click here to learn more!
On Wednesday night, the launch of the 2023 edition of H-F's art & literary magazine, EDDA, was celebrated in the South Building. Nearly 20 student-contributors read their published fiction, personal essays or poetry to an audience of supportive peers and proud family members. Mrs. Whitlock & Mr. Riedel from the Fine Arts Department led a senior musical trio, who performed their original compositions to open the showcase event. EDDA is sponsored by Ms. Mustafah, English teacher. The magazine is currently on sale in the Campus Store.
Forty-five students from Ms. Ding's Chinese classes went on a field trip with her to Chicago's Chinatown on April 21. They toured old and new Chinatown streets, where all of the store signs are written in Chinese, visited a temple, and learned a little history about the immigration of Chinese people in the 19th century. Students did a picture scavenger hunt activity, tried to ask questions in Chinese with some native speakers, and had a wonderful authentic Chinese meal in different restaurants. Thank you to Mrs. Watkins, Mrs. Madison & Mrs. Wilkes for helping chaperone.
Last weekend H-F Theatre presented it spring musical, Tuck Everlasting, in the Mall Auditorium. Thank you to the cast, crew, musicians, directors and sponsors for beautiful performances that entertained and inspired the community.
