Student Council News Student Council News

At our February meeting, the Student Council discussed the possibility of getting hot lunches in our school next year. We spoke to Miss Nolan and we are going to send some Student Council reps over to St. Malachy’s after Easter to see their hot lunches first-hand to see if we think our girls would like them. This month, our Student Council applied for the Túsla Child and Youth Participation Awar. We have gotten past the screening process so far, so now the Student Council will have a visit from an Evaluations Officer after Easter to see if we make it to the next stage of the awards. We would be delighted to receive this award, we’ll let you know how we get on!

Bhí daltaí na scoile go hiontach ag labhairt na gaeilge le linn seachtain na gaeilge! Bhí go leor eachtraí ar siúl i ngach rang - damhsaí gaelacha, tráth na gceist, cluichí, amhrán agus rabhlóga. Bhí tionól agus céilí againn ar an Aoine nuair a bhí gach duine gléasta suas i nglas, bán agus oráiste.

Comhghairdeas dóibh siúd a bhuaigh gaelgóir na seachtaine!

World Book Day World Book Day

We really enjoyed celebrating World Book Day on the 7th March. Everyone dressed up as characters from our favourite books. We also held a book swap event where each girl got to choose one book to bring home to read. Thanks to all who donated books for the book swap!

2nd Class

Second class have been extremely busy over the past couple of weeks. The girls reached a special milestone receiving their First Holy Confession in February. The anticipation and joy that came with preparing for the sacrament was wonderful and the girls did very well! During Engineers Week, the 2nd Class girls explored the world of engineering and learned how to build and design. They had a great time using their imaginations to create airplanes out of recyclable materials!

We all really enjoyed dressing up for world book day and for Lá Glás, we were excited when the whole school came together for a cheili, dancing and celebrating for St. Patrick's Day! We had a great time and really enjoyed it! The girls made a huge effort during Seachtain na Gaeilge, using Irish words and phrases and integrating them into their every day school routine! Well done girls!

3rd Class

3rd class have been very busy this term! We made parachutes as part of engineering week.

During seachtain na gaeilge we had a tráth na gceist and sent postcards home with ár nuacht. We really enjoyed it when Ms. Nolan invited our parents in to play Irish games with us.

For World Book day we all dressed up as characters from books we have read. We are reading the novel Sleepovers at the moment so the characters from the book were a popular choice of costume. We can’t forget our very keen Harry Potter fans too - Hermione and Ginny made an appearance too! We had a great World Book Day quiz with our friends in 4th class too!

As March is measures month in St Eithne’s, we’ve been busy learning about length and weight. We made meter sticks and used our estimating skills to help use order foods by their weight. We even had a competition to guess the weight of a jar of jellybeans!

4th Class

4th class have been super busy this past month. We have been learning all about measures in Maths. We had great fun exploring the theme of weight and using different types of scales. The girls also dressed in amazing costumes to celebrate World Book Day. For Engineers Week we participated in a class egg drop which was such great fun. We really loved learning An Dreoilín agus Tóg mo lámh during Seachtain na Gaeilge. What an excellent month it’s been.

5th Class

Between Creative Schools Day, our Lá Glas, World Book Day, GAA matches and trips out, it has been all go in 5th Class in the lead up to the Easter Holidays. On 7th March, the class were invited to Holy Faith Secondary School for a ceilí and a quiz as Gaeilge. The girls had great fun at this which saw many of the class winning spot prizes for their great dancing skills as well as being the winning team in the Tráth na gCeist. On Wednesday this week, the girls were also fortunate enough to head on another outing. This time it was to St. Patrick’s Cathedral, where they got a guided tour of the cathedral as well as attending an art workshop. This workshop consisted of making their own stained art glass windows. The class had only been learning about our patron saint last week and this outing allowed the girls to further their knowledge on Saint Patrick.

6th Class

Our school GAA team played their first match and displayed some great skills and teamwork. Well done to all players! We are looking forward to playing more games in the coming weeks.

We have been lucky to have Ms. Macken in our class for the last few weeks. She has taught the girls all about the different musical instrument families and also conducted a class debate to focus on our persuasive writing skills.

6th class also attended St. Gabriel’s Nursing Home where they led a lovely art lesson for St. Patrick’s Day. They made wreaths with shamrocks which are now on display in each resident’s room.

Lastly, the girls had their Ceremony of Light recently. It was lovely to see everyone receive the lighting candle from their guardian in preparation for Confirmation.

Ms. Reede's Class

Ms Reede's class have had a busy month this month creating lots of lovely art for Mothers day, St. Patrick's day and Easter! The children have also been enjoying the warmer weather with trips to the coffee shop and playground.
