CVUSD Proudly Celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month: Sept. 15th- Oct. 15th CVUSD Proudly Celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month: Sept. 15th- Oct. 15th

National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated nationwide from September 15th through October 15th to honor the contributions that Hispanic, Latino, and Latinx Americans have made to our nation and society. Resolution #23/24-01 in support of National Hispanic Heritage Month was approved at the Wednesday, August 16, 2023 Board of Education meeting. The CVUSD Board of Education encourages educators, students, and families to celebrate this year's National Hispanic Heritage Month's theme, "Latinos Driving Prosperity, Power and Progress in America," by educating students on the culture (literature, art, music, dance), languages, traditions, cuisine, and positive contributions Hispanic, Latino and Latinx Americans have made in our country, district, and community. September is Attendance Awareness Month: Take Action! September is Attendance Awareness Month: Take Action!

You are your children’s most important and longest lasting teachers and advocates. You can take the following actions to ensure that your children can develop a positive attitude toward school, stay in school longer, have better attendance, and an overall rewarding school experience.

Take Action!

  1. Make getting to school on time everyday a high priority in your family.
  2. Help your student maintain daily routines, such as finishing homework and getting a good night’s sleep.
  3. Talk with your student about the importance of school attendance and the negative effects of too many absences.
  4. Create a safe space for your student to share what’s keeping them from participating in school on a regular basis.
  5. Have a back-up plan for getting your student to school when there are difficulties with transportation, family illness, or other challenges.
  6. Schedule doctor and other appointments for after-school hours whenever possible.
  7. Monitor students’ school attendance to make sure your student is in class every day.
  8. Contact your student’s school to discuss supports and services that can help your student maintain regular school attendance.
