LMS Family Update
August 25, 2026
Greetings Lockerman Families,
The sun has set on another summer and we are ready for another successful school year! We enjoyed seeing so many families out for Back to School Night, and we are looking forward to officially welcoming all of our wildcats tomorrow!
Please allow extra time for arrival and dismissal this first week of school. For those families who are new to LMS, there are important details below about our arrival/departure traffic flow. The transportation department sent out emails over the weekend with bus information. If you did not get it, please double check your spam folder. You can call the school office with any additional questions or needed information.
For the first day of school, all 6th grade students will enter the building and report to the gym to meet their homeroom teacher who will escort them to 1st period. They will have rosters and we will be sure everyone gets where they need to be. For the first day of school, 7th and 8th graders will report directly to their 1st period classes. There will be plenty of staff around in the hallways to help students navigate to their new classrooms over the course of the first several days. Students will also receive a freshly printed copy of their schedule during homeroom.
This year we are going to have Wednesday Folders. These folders will be used to send home any forms, flyers, graded papers and other important information throughout the year. Please get in the habit of checking your child's folder every Wednesday. Think of it as Wildcat Wednesday and be on the lookout starting with the first day of school!
Finally, if you are in need of school supplies, we can help! Reach out to Ms. Rae via email at watkins.rae@ccpsstaff.org or call the main office so we can assist.
As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns. It's going to be a great year!

Car riders and walkers should be dropped off no earlier than 7:15. Supervision is limited until 7:25. Please follow crossing instructions and do not walk or congregate on the neighbors' property. Students can gather at the town park entrance and wait to cross at the crosswalk.
We dismiss in 3 waves beginning at 2:28. Walkers and car riders are dismissed at approximately 2:37.

Policy Reminders
Cell Phones
Students will be issued a cell phone pouch on the first day of school in homeroom. Cell phones and wireless earbuds are to be locked in the pouch upon entering the building each day, and remain locked until dismissal.
Dress Code
No hats, hoods, or head coverings are allowed
No midriffs or visible undergarments
Chromebooks
6th grade is the first time students are allowed to take their Chromebooks home! This novelty can make it tempting to misuse the device and/or their CCPS Google accounts. Please remind your child that the Chromebook does not belong to them and is property of CCPS. Accounts are monitored and acceptable use is anything related to school assignments or using email to communicate with staff. Student email accounts should not be used for social purposes. Google applications such as Slides and Docs should also not be used as chat tools. Students should only use their device cameras when instructed to do so by a teacher.
Any damage to the device should be reported to the school immediately.
Students should never give out their log-in information or share access to their Google account. Students who log-in as another student will face computer restrictions. Computer restrictions will be put in place for students who do not meet expectations regarding the use and care of our devices.
Tardies
5 tardies = lunch detention
10 tardies = after school detention
15 tardies = hall restriction/escort
Walk with a purpose and be on time to class!
Toys
Students should not bring toys that cause disruption to school. That would include squishies that can be cut or popped and lose their filling.
Community School Corner...coming soon!
First up: clubs and after school opportunities. We are excited to offer many options for students to get connected, find new interests, build social skills, expand their learning, contribute to our community, and of course, have fun! A list of upcoming opportunities will be shared asap!
Attendance Matters
Did you know students who miss 3 or more days of school in the first month of school are far more likely to be chronically absent at the end of the year. Half of the students who miss 2-4 days in September go on to miss nearly a month of school! Chronically absent means the student missed 10% or more of the school year. That's 18 days or more and they add up quick!
Why does that matter? Chronic absenteeism leads to course failures, anxiety, and knowledge gaps that quickly snowball. Consistent school attendance is important at all levels. Our middle schoolers are at the age where they start to form habits for themselves. Make good school attendance one of them. It's starts from day 1!
Communication
Our annual Student Information Update Form is officially open! This form allows parents and guardians to review and update their student’s information to ensure that we have the most accurate and up-to-date records and contact information. The form must be completed through the Parent Portal using a web browser at carolinecps.powerschool.com. Check your email for more information. Please review the information for each child enrolled and submit the form for this year no later than September 30, 2026.
Classroom Communication
To keep you informed and involved, we’re continuing to use Rooms, our two-way communication tool that helps you stay connected with your child’s teachers and school staff.
Features include:
SMS Text Notifications
You’ll now receive text message notifications whenever a new message or announcement is sent in Rooms. Each text includes a direct link to view the content in your mobile browser or in the app.

Nutrition
From the Health Suite
Healthy vision and hearing is important for your child’s success in school. State law requires school systems to have students’ hearing and vision screened when they enter the school system and again in first and eighth grades. Hearing and vision screenings are scheduled to begin on September 14th, 2026.
Students who should not be included in the screenings include:
Those whose parents/guardians object in writing to the screenings on the grounds that it conflicts with the tenets and practice of a recognized church or religious denomination of which they are a member;
Those with known hearing loss, including but not limited to, students with cochlear implants or hearing aids; and
Those who present evidence of testing within the last year.
If your child falls into any of these categories or if you have any questions, please reach out to the school nurse at 410-479-3277 or via email at eatontribbitt.christina@ccpsstaff.org
Our School Based Health Center is Here to Help!
A Message From Your Principal: A Healthy Start Leads to A Successful School Year
The excitement of a new school year is here. Along with shopping for school supplies, meeting teachers, and settling into new routines, I encourage you to put your child's health at the top of your back-to-school checklist.
Healthy students are better prepared to learn, grow, and participate in all that schoo has to offer. Through our partnership with Choptank Health, students enrolled in the School-Based Health Center program have convenient access to quality health care right here on campus.
As you prepare for the first day of school, here are a few ways to help your child get off to a strong start:
• Enroll your student in the School-Based Health Center if they are not already enrolled. Enrollment is free.
• Make sure your child's immunizations are up to date.
• Schedule sports physicals before fall athletic seasons begin.
• Update the School-Based Health Center with any changes to your child's medications, medical
history, or emergency contacts.
• Support healthy habits at home by encouraging nutritious meals, regular physical activity, and
good sleep. Students enrolled in the program also have access to nutrition counseling and
behavioral health services when needed.
Choptank Health's School-Based Health Centers provide comprehensive medical, dental, nutrition, and behavioral health services for enrolled students. Care is coordinated with your child's primary care provider and dentist to ensure they receive the support they need.
To learn more about the School-Based Health Center program or to enroll your student, visit

Emailing School & District Staff
Spam filters are designed to identify emails that attackers or marketers use to send unwanted or dangerous content. They also throw out malware, malicious, and virus-infested emails and protect user security. Unfortunately, spam filtering is an inexact science that at times blocks legitimate messages.
Should you send an email to a staff member and not receive a reply within a reasonable amount of time (no more than 48 hours), please call the office.
