Principal's Panui Principal's Panui

Kia ora koutou,

As we approach the end of another action-packed term, I want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible efforts of our students and share some important updates as we look ahead to the holidays and Term 3.

Key Dates & End-of-Term Reminders

  • Year 6 Intermediate Enrolment: A reminder to parents of our Year 6 students to please look into and complete your intermediate school enrolments for next year if you haven't already.

  • School Reports: Keep an eye out during the final week of school! Mid-year reports will be sent home to give you a clear picture of your child's progress and achievements so far.

  • Last Day of Term (Pyjama Day!): To celebrate all the hard work this term, the final day of school will be a Pyjama Day! Students are welcome to come cosy and comfortable to wrap up the term.

Sports & Cultural Celebrations

  • Interschool Cross Country: I had the absolute pleasure of attending the recent Interschool Cross Country event. The tamariki who were chosen to represent our school put in a fantastic effort, showing incredible grit and sportsmanship. I felt incredibly proud watching them give it their all!

  • Kī-o-rahi Tournament: Next Wednesday, the 24th, we will have two teams attending the upcoming Kī-o-rahi tournament. Best of luck to all our players—we know you will represent us well!

  • Pae Tamariki (Term 3, Week 1): Get ready for a massive start to the next term! The entire school will be performing at Pae Tamariki during the very first week back. Further details regarding performance times and logistics are still coming, and we will share those with you as soon as they are finalised.

Looking Ahead: Parent-Teacher Interviews

To discuss your child's report and set goals for the remainder of the year, we will be holding Parent-Teacher Interviews in Week 2 of Term 3. Booking details will be sent out soon.

Please check your child's hair!

We have identified several cases of head lice across various year levels. To prevent a school-wide infestation, we ask that you check your child’s hair tonight.

  • Treatment: If you find eggs or lice, please keep your child home until they have been treated.

  • Support: We are here to help! We have shampoo and combs available at the office for any families who need them.

  • Check Bags: We have already sent treatment products home with some students today; please check your child’s school bag to see if they have brought these home.

Attendance Attendance

Afternoon Pick up

Please wait until 3pm before students are picked up from classes at the end of they day. On occasions when there is an important reason why a student needs to be picked up early, please let the teacher know beforehand (in the morning).

For all children, please ensure they are picked up as soon as possible after 3pm (or 2pm Wednesdays). If you will be late, please let the office know as early as possible. With the office being very busy at the end of the day, it is very difficult to get last minute messages to students about changes to after school plans. Thank you for your support with this.

Every Day Matters: Our New Attendance Approach

This year, you may have heard about the Government’s new Stepped Attendance Response (STAR) framework. Consistent attendance is the single greatest predictor of student success, and our goal is to support every child in reaching "regular attendance" (attending more than 90% of the time).

To keep you informed, we are implementing a tiered response to absences each term:

  • 5 Days Absent: We will get in touch to check in, discuss any hurdles, and clarify expectations.
  • 10 Days Absent: A meeting with school leadership to identify specific barriers and create a support plan.
  • 15 Days Absent: This level of absence is considered "chronic." At this stage, we are required to involve the Ministry of Education to provide more intensive support.

We know that life happens—illness and family emergencies are part of reality. Our focus is on open communication so we can help your child stay connected to their learning.

Tennis Holiday Programme

Jono Spring and I, along with a couple of junior coaches, are running two holiday sessions during the July school holidays, one in Palmerston North and one in Feilding.

These sessions will give young players the opportunity to come along, upskill their tennis, or have a go. This programme is targeted at children aged 5–10 in the Red and Orange ball stages.
