Dear HMS Families,

This past week was a great week for Heritage! We wanted to take a minute to highlight some of the amazing things that happened.

-Heritage was honored by Everyone Reading Illinois with the It Takes a Village Award, recognizing our ongoing commitment to literacy.

-The Illinois Report Card was released, and Heritage earned a commendable school designation!

-Our students gave a phenomenal performance at Dare to Dream and were thrilled to learn that this year’s school musical will be Matilda Jr.

-We also enjoyed a spirited Spirit Week that ended with an exciting and festive Halloween celebration.

-Quarter 1 Progress Reports were emailed to families on Friday morning.

Please be reminded that this upcoming week is another busy one with some different schedules for our students. Tuesday, November 4th, we have our next Late Start, which means students should not arrive on campus before 9:00 AM.

We will have our next PTSS meeting on Wednesday, November 5th, at 5 PM. This meeting will be on Zoom. The Zoom link will be sent out to families on Wednesday morning. We hope you can join us, and again, all are welcome.

We are excited to meet with families again during Parent Teacher Conferences, which will be held on Thursday, November 6th, from 1:15–4:15 PM and 5:00–7:30 PM. Here are the grade-level-specific letters for families to use to sign up for a conference with the teacher(s) you would like to meet with during the time that works best for you. Please remember that due to conferences, students will not have school on Thursday, November 6th.

On Tuesday, November 11th, Heritage will host our Veterans Day Assembly. We will begin with a light breakfast at 8:30 AM for Veterans and their families, followed by the assembly at 8:45 AM. If you have family members or neighbors who have served in any branch of the military, Heritage Middle School would like the privilege of honoring them at a special assembly. Please reach out to Clair Pohanka (cpohanka@bsd100.org) or Michelle Hauer (mhauer@bsd100.org) if you have someone you would like to be honored that day, or fill out this Google Form.

Digital Agreement

Our school is excited to provide each student with an iPad to support learning both in and out of the classroom. In order to ensure that devices are used responsibly and remain in good condition, we ask families and students to review the Digital Agreement by filling out this Google Form.

PBIS Rewards

We utilize an app called PBIS Rewards where students earn points throughout the school year for being Responsible, Respectful and Safe. We have a PBIS store that we open for students to purchase fun items with their points. We also do raffles, field trips and a winter extravaganza that students can utilize their points throughout the year. We encourage students to use their points by the end of the year as they do not roll over!

StopIt

This week, students will download STOPit to their iPads. This is an online application that Heritage students have access to. This application allows students to anonymously report incidents of bullying, misconduct or general concerns. All reports go to the support service team and administration, which allows us to act quickly and in real time to any concerns or incidents.

Breakfast & Lunch

Students at Heritage receive free breakfast and lunch each day if they choose to participate, or they may bring their own lunch from home. As a healthy school, we ask that students do not bring pop, energy drinks, or large bags of snacks.

Breakfast will be served each morning before students head to their Period 1 class. Lunch will take place at the scheduled time according to the bell schedule, and students will also have the option to participate in recess during their lunchtime.
