School Advisory Council (SAC)
The School Advisory Council is a group made up of school employees, parents, and community members who work collaboratively with the principal to provide input and advice regarding important school matters. The purpose of the SAC is to ensure that families, staff, and community members have a voice in school-based decision making and in supporting the success of our students.
As a member of the SAC, you would have the opportunity to:
- Provide input and advice regarding instructional priorities, curriculum-related matters, and school programs.
- Review and provide feedback regarding the school’s proposed and actual budget and how resources support student needs.
- Help identify creative ways to increase parent and family involvement at Capital High School.
- Discuss ways to connect students and academic programs with community, business, career, and workforce opportunities.
- Help strengthen community support and participation in our school.
- Support our efforts to ensure that families are meaningfully involved in their children’s education, including the parental involvement expectations outlined under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
The SAC serves in an advisory capacity. Members are not expected to manage the day-to-day operations of the school. Rather, I will bring information, ideas, priorities, and sometimes challenges to the council so that I can hear different perspectives before making school-based decisions. I especially value having parents at the table because you bring a perspective that we, as educators, may not always see.
My goal is for our SAC to be a collaborative and solutions-focused group that helps us continually improve Capital High School while keeping the needs and success of our students at the center of our conversations.
I would be very grateful to have you serve as one of our parent representatives and bring your perspective, ideas, and voice to the council.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Thank you for considering being part of this important group and for supporting Capital High School.
Our 1st SAC meeting will be on September 24th in the CHS Library beginning at 5:30pm
