Juniors and Seniors Can Join FAST Track Pre- Apprentice Program Fall 2023

Last year, GBSD was given approval by the Bureau of Labor and Industry (BOLI) to offer a pre-apprenticeship program at SBHS in both construction and manufacturing. This pre-apprentice program enables our graduates, who complete the program, to fast-track their careers in metal manufacturing or construction. With a BOLI certificate, they will be allowed to go directly to interviews with a variety of partner apprenticeships, or they can go directly to work as an apprentice depending on the agreement they have with our district. This can save years of waiting to get into an apprenticeship. Our FAST Track Program (Future Apprentice Student in the Trades) is being offered to juniors and seniors who have met the pre-qualifications. To qualify a student must have completed Integrated 1 (Math) with a C or better AND they must have taken either 2 classes in metals (Metals Manufacturing) or 2 classes in woods (Construction) with a C or better. If you would like to learn more, check out FAST Track Construction or FAST Track Metal Manufacturing. Applications are available in the College & Career Center.

Pre-ACT and ACT - Oct 17

On October 17, 2023, we will be hosting a college / career testing day for all high school students.

All 9th grade and 10th grade students are required to attend and will be taking the pre-ACT.

The ACT will be offered to all 11th and 12th grade students who wish to take this exam.

All of these exams will be offered free of charge to our students.

The ACT and pre-ACT provide a unique opportunity for students to connect with colleges that they may wish to attend while also giving students individual feedback on potential careers that match their unique skills and interest. Both the ACT and the pre-ACT are aligned to high school level content so that students can get a sense of their readiness to pursue college or career options once they graduate from high school.

Juniors and seniors can register here.

Here are some links that you may find helpful.

More information will be coming your way soon, but please reach out to your home high school if you have any questions.

PSAT Testing - Oct 31

We are excited to let you know that we are offering the PSAT this year as an optional experience for your student. The PSAT is a standardized test that is designed to look and feel similar to college preparation tests such as the SAT and ACT. The test provides a measure of a student's knowledge and skills in the areas of reading, writing, and math. 11th graders who take the PSAT may be eligible for the National Merit Scholarship Program. The PSAT will take place during the school day on October 31, 2023 and will cost $18. 11th grade students who qualify for free/reduced lunch are eligible for a fee waiver and can take the PSAT free of charge. Any student wishing to take the PSAT must register with their school by September 15, 2023. Please reach out to your school counselor if you have any questions.

Jessica Poundstone

“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.” – Marcel Proust

In this class, we’ll see what we can see, generating ideas, images, and feelings we can use in our creative pursuits. This class will be more about exploring new ways of looking and making than it is about creating finished artwork. The goal is that you’ll come away with a head and heart full of ideas that will get you excited about making new work.

Sat, November 25, 2023, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Bodecker Foundation

Sarah Frechette

The main theme of this workshop is the construction of a stage-worthy string puppet. Artist Sarah Frechette teaches a special technique invented by German Master Puppeteer Albrecht Roser in the 1950s. Participants will follow the steps to fabricate and balance their own performable puppet. Scarf Puppets were developed as a way to give many their first marionette-building experience. In this workshop, we will unify construction and performance because technique and art must serve expression. For this workshop participants must be skilled at sewing.

(Please note that due to limited capacity, all students are put on a waitlist when they register. Spots will be confirmed two weeks before the start of each workshop)
