- Teachers will be sending welcome emails once student placement is shared
- Kindergarten Meet and Greet is September 2nd from 5:30-6:30 **Any students new to Spencer may also attend that night to see the building**
- If you have trouble seeing your student's assigned teacher, email pc@brightonk12.com
- Supply Lists should be in your teacher welcome email, PTO Facebook page, or Parent Resource Guide
Reach out with any questions and we look forward to seeing everyone!

Student Placement - Important Viewing Info
Student placement information will be available in Parent Connect TODAY. You will then receive information from your child’s teacher with all of the class information. Please make sure to go into your parent portal as soon as possible and complete the Back to School Packet so that all information is correct and updated to start the year. **NOTE** View the Teacher Placement information on the Parent Connect App or on a desktop computer - not on your phone (the Advisior = the Teacher).
Spencer Parent Resource Guide
This Spencer Parent Resource Guide is filled with important information and answers to most (if not all) the questions you may have.
QR Code
Student Sign-In & Sign-Out
We are continuing our efforts to maximize security and minimize traffic in our lobby where students frequently pass through at any given time during the course of a school day, and will again use the QR code system for parents/guardians when either 1) signing in your student tardy or 2) picking up your student early. The QR codes will be affixed outside Door #1 (the main entrance door) and you will simply use the camera on your phone to scan the QR codes (NOTE: one code is for signing IN a student and one code is for signing OUT a student). After you scan the code, it will direct you to either the Student Sign In or Sign Out Google Form. The safety officer and/or office will then locate your student and send them out to you where you will show your ID. To expedite this process, it will be helpful to you to send in a note with your student in the morning to give to the teacher if you will be picking up your student early.
Here are the QR Links. You can always save these to your phone for quick reference.
Drop Off Cabinet
Forgotten Items?
You will find the Drop Off Cabinet (pictured below) outside near the main entrance to the school. Here you will put those forgotten items that your student may need. Simply fill out the small slip of paper with the student's name and teacher, affix it to the item, and a staff member will deliver it to your student.

Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten First Day of School
There is so much wrapped up into the first day of school in kindergarten. A kindergarten first day is important to teachers, students, and parents! JK/K students will have an alternate schedule on the first day of school. Students will join their teachers outside their classroom doors at 9:30 AM and will be dismissed when the bell rings at 3:58 PM to follow their typical end of day routine, whether they travel home by bus, parent pick up, attend Friendship Center, etc...
Curriculum Night - Grades 1-4
Our Spencer curriculum night will be Thursday, September 17th from 5:30-6:45PM. This is a chance for parents to meet with the teacher without their students, learn about our curriculum, and get the flow of the school day! We ask that you leave students at home so you can attend to the information the teachers have prepared for you! If you have multiple Roadrunners, then you decide which presentation to attend. The schedule will be as follows...
5:30-6:00 Presentation option #1 for classroom
6:00-6:30 Presentation option #2 for classroom
6:30-6:45 Informal meet the principal in the Media Center (optional) ~ Mrs. Boyd
*Specials Teachers will be in their rooms 5:30-6:30 so you can meet with them and explore the classroom spaces!
Specials Enrichment Classes
This year we will continue to provide an optional opportunity for academic enrichment during the school day in the areas of Music, PE, Art, and STEAM. Here are some things to consider when signing up your student.
- The class is offered during the school day meaning they may be missing part of the classroom instruction (communicate with your teacher to determine the schedule)
- You may sign up for one, two, or three trimesters. Each trimester runs the same programming so there could be repeat activities.
Please use this link to sign up your student if you are interested.
Elementary Handbook
A copy of the Parent & Student Elementary Handbook can be found online by clicking HERE It is loaded with valuable information for families. Please read and go over the rules, policies, and procedures with your student(s). It is important that all students follow these rules to help create the best learning atmosphere for all.
Note from the Attendance Secretary
Remember to call in your child's absence to the Attendance Line at 810-299-4354 as early as possible in the morning. Leave a brief reason for their absence so I can excuse it. If your child was absent for an illness and you have note from the doctor, please send it in to the office.
Absences/Tardies
Per the District Brighton Area Schools Elementary Handbook...
On the day(s) your child is absent from school, you must notify the school by phone or parent connect giving the reason for being absent. In the event of an anticipated absence (doctor appointments, funerals, other family matters) you must notify the office by phone or parent connect. For safety purposes, all families are required to have on record at their child’s school TWO current phone numbers at which the parent and/or guardian can always be reached during the day. For extended absences, a doctor’s note may be needed. Absences for family vacations are discouraged. The student will accept responsibility for work missed where appropriate upon return to school. The student will have one day to make up work for each day absent.
If a child is absent for 10% of the marking period, a letter from the Principal addressing the
absence issue may be sent to the parents. If the child continues to be absent from school, a
Truancy Officer may be contacted to investigate the situation.
Students are expected to be in the classroom when school begins. It is the responsibility of the
parent and the student to see that the student arrives at school on time. We do not count the
students tardy if they ride the bus and buses arrive late. In cases of frequent tardiness, the parent
will be notified so the situation can be corrected.
Parent Reported Absences
A convenient feature in Parent Connect will allow you to enter your student’s absence. Simply log into parent connect and click on the link Report Absence. The Report Absence link will open a screen for you to complete. If you have more than one student check the name of the student for whom an absence is being submitted. Add the applicable dates. If you check the All Day flag attendance will be submitted for the AM and PM periods. If you do not check the All Day flag times must be entered and attendance will be submitted for whichever periods meet during the time range (based on period schedule).
Water Bottles
Please remember to send your child to school each day with a refillable water bottle with their name on it. Spencer has water refilling stations throughout the building and we encourage students to drink water throughout the day.
Just In Case Clothes
Parents - Please make sure you pack a change of clothes (that are weather appropriate) in your child's backpack EVERY DAY. This is for ALL students, grades JK-4th, you never know when your student may have a nosebleed, or loose a tooth, or spill food/milk on their shirt, or find a mud puddle outside, or have a bathroom accident. If your student keeps a change of clothing in their backpack, then we can take care of it here, otherwise we need you to bring up a change of clothes. Thank you for your cooperation.
Medication At School
Medication Drop Off is scheduled for Tuesday, September 1st from 10AM-2PM or on the morning of the first day of school when our Nurse, Megan Virzi, will be in the clinic to check it in. If your child will be taking medication during the school day, either prescription or over the counter, the Medication Authorization Form must be on file in the office. The form can be accessed by clicking the button below. It MUST be filled out completely and signed by BOTH the physician and the parent and brought in along with the medication. For safety reasons, students are never allowed to carry medications. They must be brought to school by a parent/guardian in its original container.
Lunch Information
Note from Student Nutrition
Lunchroom accounts can be managed on Parent Connect, this allows you to put money into your child's account for the week, month, or year. Once you’ve logged into Parent Connect, select which student account you would like to view, then select “Cafeteria.” The cafeteria page will allow you to see what your student has purchased as well as their available balance. The computer keeps track of each child's lunch transactions and notifies you when the account is short of funds. Lunch money (cash or check made payable to BAS Cafe) for your child can also be brought to school in an envelope with his/her name, teacher's name and amount of money enclosed on the outside. To make an online payment, click on “Online FS Payments.” This will take you to a PayPal login page where you can make a payment online. If you are unable to login to Parent Connect, please email pc@brightonk12.com for your login credentials. If you need further assistance, please call the Student Nutrition office at 810-299-4175 or send an email to lairds@brightonk12.com.
Families are encouraged to fill out an Education & Nutrition Benefits Application, formerly known as the Free/Reduced Meals Application. This can be done online through MiStar, by downloading a PDF from the BAS website under Student Nutrition, or by clicking the button link below.
Transportation
Busing information can now be found in Parent Connect. Please call the Transportation Office at (810) 299-3890 if any information is incorrect. A representative from the Transportation Dept. will be available at the JK/K Meet & Greet for questions. If your child is to be picked up or dropped off anywhere but home, you will need to fill out an Alternate Destination Request form before school starts. You can access this form by clicking the button below. You can access the Transportation Website by clicking HERE.
**PLEASE NOTE**
Busses tend to run late during the first week of school as we ensure all our little ones are where they need to be and boarding the correct bus. Please do not call the office inquiring about when your child will be home as we will not have that information.
Student Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures
Please look over the following information. For the first week of school teachers will be greeting their students on the sidewalk at the front of the school. You may help your child find their teacher and return to your car. The second week of school students can be dropped off in the Student Drop-Off Zone. The Student Drop-Off Zone is the best option to keep traffic flowing and students arriving to school on time. Also, we won't have adults outside until 8:55. Please do not drop off your child before then.
DROP OFF (8:55 AM)
Do not drop off your child before 8:55 AM. We do not have adults outside to supervise until 8:55 AM and the classrooms will not be opened before this time.
When entering the Student Drop-Off Zone, have your child ready with their belongings to exit the vehicle. Remain in your vehicle and have your child exit from the passenger side. Children and adults should never get out of the driver’s side while in the Student Drop-Off Zone.
Please pull all the way forward and then stop to let your child out.
After dropping off your child, wait for the cars in front of you to exit. Do not try to pass, as it puts students in danger.
After 9:05 AM the Student Drop-Off Zone will be closed and you must park and walk your child up to Door #1 at the main entrance to sign them in tardy from the QR Code on the door.
PICK UP (3:58 PM)
To ensure that your child is in the correct location, please make sure your child’s teacher knows your child is a pick-up. You will need to contact the office if there has been a change in your student's transportation at the end of the day. We ask that you do not email the teachers as they are teaching and aren’t always able to check their emails during the day.
All students who are being picked up at dismissal will wait inside the classroom. You will go to your child’s designated door (see the list below for door numbers) and at 3:58 PM your child will be dismissed.
When picking up your child, make sure you have your photo ID. If a grandparent or other adult will be picking up your student, please be sure they are listed as an emergency contact in Parent Connect and they will need to show a photo ID.
Important Reminders and Updates:
Please access the crosswalk at the main entrance only
Do not park in the crosswalk areas.
Do not pull in handicap spaces to drop off/pick up. These spaces are for our students who need wheelchair access or for adults who are handicapped and need to walk in.
Students of any age are not allowed to walk in the parking lot without an adult.
The bus lot is not available for student drop off/pick up.
We will monitor this process and will make adjustments to the procedures to increase efficiency and safety. School traffic is challenging, and we appreciate and thank you for your patience as we work to make our parking lot safe and efficient. We anticipate long lines during the first week of school. Please do not pass cars to bypass these lines to access the parking lot. Again, I know that these changes may cause a slight inconvenience, however, they will allow us to better ensure the safety of our students.
Sincerely,
Chelsea Boyd, Principal

Welcome Back Spencer Families! Our PTO Board has been working on some really fun events for the upcoming year! This year's theme is Embrace The Journey and you will see that incorporated into all the things we do.
UPCOMING EVENTS...
Family Picnic
Our first event of the school year is our Family Picnic, which will be held from 6pm - 8pm on Wednesday, September 23rd. This is a great time to meet other Spencer families while enjoying a hot dog meal, yard games, and crafts. This year it will be extra special to host the event during our district's Pink Week! Look for a bake sale, bracelet shop, coin wars, and other fun activities to support our district-wide fundraising efforts for the Trinity Cancer Center! It's a really fun night and we hope to see you there!
Roadrunner Run
Also, please save the date for our 14th Annual Roadrunner Run! This incredibly fun event will be held in the afternoon of Friday, October 9th. It is one of our biggest school fundraisers of the year and so much fun for the kids. Volunteer sign ups will be posted soon and fundraising paperwork will be going home the first week of school.
SPONSORS NEEDED
The Roadrunner Run is such a huge success not only because of our students' fundraising efforts, but also because of the tremendous support Spencer receives from community business sponsors too! If you or someone you know is a business owner and would like to become a sponsor, please reach out to us at spencerroadpto@gmail.com. For just a $250 donation, your company's logo will go on the backs of nearly 700 t-shirts that Spencer students, teachers and staff will wear on special days throughout the year, including the Roadrunner Run! Please see the attached letter below for more information and for additional sponsor benefits! Thank you for your support!
STUDENT T-SHIRT ORDERS
Each year the PTO creates a special shirt to be worn on certain days throughout the year (Roadrunner Run, field trips, field day and more!). Each grade level is represented by a different color, and all students will receive a shirt regardless of ability to pay. So, please submit sizes for all students. This year we are asking for an $8 donation per shirt to help offset costs. Orders are done through the enrollment packet PTO tab on Parent Connect and payment is through Zeffy.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We. Love. Volunteers! Our amazing events wouldn't be so successful without the help of our incredible parents. We would appreciate help this year with all these great events planned. Please take a moment to fill out our Volunteer Interest Form . If you have any questions on the committees, please reach out to spencerroadpto@gmail.com and we would be more than happy to go over any questions you may have.

Fueling Kids' Futures
Considering the tough economic times facing our area, we are attempting to help Brighton School families by making sure all our children have enough food. “Fueling Kids’ Futures One Meal at a Time” is a program designed to provide students on the free and reduced lunch program with enough food for three meals a day during the weekends. This program is a community-based program sponsored by Fueling Kids’ Futures, Community Foundation of Greater Rochester, Our Food Partner, and the Brighton Community.
If you agree to take part in this program, during the school year, your child will receive a bag filled with purchased food for the weekend. Bags will be dispensed in a discreet and caring manner. The simple meals may include food like mac and cheese, canned chicken, canned tuna, granola bars, peanut butter, soups, cereal, fruit cups, and other items. For you, there is no cost associated with this program.
To ensure, as to the best of our ability, to provide for a safe packing environment all volunteers will follow the guidelines established by the Brighton School District. All food will be sent home in disposable plastic bags.
If you would like to have your child participate in this program, fill out this form. If you have more than one child attending the school, list the names of all children in this school.
Please be sure to indicate on the form if your child has any food allergies. If your child has a food
allergy, you as the parent are responsible for checking all food labels when the food arrives home.
Brighton Area Schools as well as Fueling Kids’ Futures, Community Foundation of Greater
Rochester, and the Food Partner will not be held responsible for any accidental food allergen
exposure.
Backpacks
We have extra backpacks filled with school supplies that have been donated to us. Let the office know if you would like to receive one.
Food Pantry and Lost & Found
Spencer has a Food Pantry that was gifted to us by our Spencer Class of 2024 students and PTO. It is located outside in the front of the school behind the Teacher's Retreat near Door #3. Feel free to visit if you need some assistance with food. We are also accepting donations to stock up the Food Pantry. If you are so inclined to help with that, it would be greatly appreciated.
Lost & Found is also located next to the Food Pantry in the front of the school near Door #3.
