A Note From Dr. Coffman A Note From Dr. Coffman

We are excited to celebrate Random Acts of Kindness this month. We sent home a calendar for your child to complete this month in which they choose a random act of kindness. We are always supporting your children in developing good character, and promoting a culture of kindness. Please work with your child in completing all the random acts of kindness and send the calendar back to school to submit to his/he teacher. We will display all of our kind students on our walls! We want our students to spread kindness like confetti and can't wait to see how each child grows from supporting one another!

Next week is National School Counselor Week! Our counselor, Sherryll Barclay is an asset to our district. Please make her feel loved by sending notes and sharing kind words with her! She takes care of our students in many different ways, and we are proud that she is an integral part of the Bronco family!

4th grade Math--We are still working on our basic Geometry unit. We have done LOTS of conversions of both standard and metric units. We are still working super hard on word problems since that is an area where we struggle. We will continue with geometry for the next couple of weeks before moving on. Please have your child "estimate" weights, lengths, and capacities of common, everyday objects.

4th grade Science--we are finishing up with our weather unit and are preparing to move into our unit on the water cycle.

5th grade Science--we have just finished up with our water cycle review and are moving into our Earth/Sun/Moon unit. We will be looking at many things but will be starting with the rotation of the Earth on its axis and the resulting day/night cycle.

Thank you for sharing your children with me,

Mrs. Brown 🙂

5TH GRADE

Math

-We will wrap up volume next week, and slowly move into measurement conversions. This unit is little more challenging. The students must decide what operation to use and difference between one unit measurement from the other.

-We are slowly finishing up our math concepts that need to be learned so that we can cover all our 5th grade math TEKs. Afterwards, we will start to STAAR review. It is very important that all students are in school every day.

-Thank you for all your support.

Mrs. Gamez

ELAR:

In Reading we are learning all about DRAMA! We're working through different plays and discussing the difference between the elements of fiction and the elements of drama. This has been fun for the students because we have been able to act out some of the acts and scenes within the dramatic texts we've been reading. We will continue to work on this over the next week or so.

Social Studies:

We're headed to war in our Social Studies unit: the Civil War. We are focusing on what took place before the start of the Civil War and diving into the different reasons that led to the war in the first place. This is definitely a very interesting unit for the students to learn about and discuss.

A few reminders:

  • New spelling words are being sent home today with your student. Our test will be next Thursday. Please practice those words every day with your child.
  • Please be sure your child is reading at least 20 minutes every day. We have many who are not meeting their AR goals, and I know each child can meet them.
  • Please let me or Ms. Gamez know if your child will be out so we can have work ready for them when they come back.
  • Bronco folders are being sent home today with graded papers and information about our Valentine's Day party. Please look through those with your child.
  • Check with your child if they have corrections or missing work from me.

As always, if you have any questions for me, please reach out to me so I can best help you and your child. I appreciate you allowing me to work with your child every day.

Thank you!

Mrs. Rasco
