Welcome Back!
A New Year, A Fresh Start
Greetings Hull High School Students and Families!
Mid-August is upon us, and that means the beginning of a new school year is not far behind. Come to think of it, it's already here! As I make some final revisions to this newsletter, our football team is outside practicing on the first day of their season ... our other fall athletics programs will get started on Monday.
We have been busy this summer getting things ready for you. Our custodial and maintenance teams have done great work getting the building itself in top notch shape. Ms Falletti and Ms O'Donnell have been making improvements to the main office and guidance office, filling all our book and supply orders, and ensuring all our systems are in place for a smooth operation every day.
This newsletter contains some information to support a positive start when things get going next week, whether you are a new or returning student. Most pressing for now is for you to know what the first day will look like and what to do if you need to make any changes to your schedule. Those details are below.
Finally, I want to extend a hearty WELCOME to our eighth grade, soon to be Hull High School's Class of 2030!
In the meantime, I hope everyone enjoys what remains of summer vacation!
Best,
Robert Shaw, Ed.D.

August 27: First Day of School
Students in grade 8 to 12 begin the new year on Wednesday, August 27. The day begins at 7:25 AM. All students will start the day in Advisory. Students will be able to find their Advisories on Aspen by looking at their schedule or profile page. Advisories also will be posted in the main lobby.
- Students in grades 9-12 will report directly to their Advisory classrooms
- Students in grade 8 will report to the Auditorium.
August 27 is Picture Day. All students will be photographed. For more information about ordering pictures, visit the Lifetouch website. Our "Picture Day ID" is EVTPF9R3R. Or, paper copies of order forms are available from Ms Falletti in the office.
Seniors will have their class photo taken; be sure to wear your senior shirts!
Student Schedules
Student schedules will be available in Aspen as of today (Monday, August 18). To request any changes, students may use the Schedule Change Form. Guidance counselors will review submissions, make changes as appropriate, and schedule appointments with students on the first or second day of school to confirm the new schedule. Guidance counselors will not be available to accept change requests by phone or email. Please use the Schedule Change Form.
Please attend classes as scheduled until your counselor confirms the change!!
Students will notice a couple of changes to this year's schedule:
- One feature is"Directed Study." These are non-academic periods; most students will have one either blue or gold day (and typically opposite the PE/Wellness class). Students must attend the Directed Study as you would any other class and adhere to the behavior expectations as in any class. The period offers a great opportunity to catch up or get ahead with school work, study for a test, or just enjoy a break in the day.
- Advisory will meet on Wednesdays only. Returning students know that Advisory met for eight minutes between periods A and B four days a week and for thirty minutes on Wednesdays. The eight-minute Advisory is now removed, with the leftover minutes added to periods A through G. The Advisory on Wednesday still will be thirty minutes, and sometimes sixty minutes (Extended Advisory).
As needed, please consult the various bell schedules the high school uses.
Introducing Our New Guidance Counselors
Hull High School is thrilled to welcome Mr. Thomas Egan and Ms Kaitlyn McGee to our Guidance Department! Both Mr. Egan and Ms McGee will work with students in all grades from 8 to 12. Mr. Egan has been assigned all students with last names beginning with A to K and Ms McGee last names beginning with L to Z. Many of you will meet your new counselor very quickly through the schedule change process. The rest will not be far behind as Mr. Egan and Ms McGee begin to meet individually with you and through advisories and other group presentations.
Looking ahead ... parents/guardians of students in grades 9 and 12 are invited to upcoming guidance presentations:
- College Night for Grade 12 families on Thursday, September 25 at 6 PM
- Grade 9 Info Night for Grade 9 families on Thursday, October 9 at 6 PM
Both presentations will be hosted in the Exhibition Room.
