LOOK UP, OSHKOSH! The SMART Social Project
February 3, 2026
Hello, OASD Families,
Who struggles with their kids’ screen habits, or even their own? It can often feel overwhelming to know where to begin making a change, but you aren't alone in that feeling.
The Oshkosh Area School District is proud to support The SMART Social Project, a community-wide initiative that you may be hearing and seeing more about in the weeks and months ahead. This project comes from The Women’s Fund of the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation to support healthier screen habits for Oshkosh kids, teens, and families.
What is SMART Social?
SMART represents five keys for using technology with intention: self-awareness, mindfulness, authenticity, responsibility, and truth. The core features of SMART Social include offering:
- Education + awareness about the impacts and effects of screens on health; so when we know better, we can choose better.
- Resources + tools for parents, educators, and kids to develop balanced technology habits. Making healthier screen choices can feel really hard; support is necessary.
- Community events + activities that encourage off-line connections and screen-free experiences.
What’s Coming Up?
From now through June, the project will focus on five digital themes negatively impacting brain development and mental health. Each theme addresses digital behavior through education, resources, partnerships, and community-wide events:
- February: Addictive Behaviors (Tech-Free events every Tuesday at local businesses!)
- March: Misinformation (Participate in an interactive "Truth Quest")
- April: Sleep Deprivation (Community-wide PJ Day)
- May: Social Comparison (Community art installation)
- June: Cyberbullying (A special "No-Trolls" event)
The goal of this campaign isn’t solely to rescue screen time; it is mostly about supporting the entire community in making smarter, more intentional choices with their screens. We invite you to join us and LOOK UP, OSHKOSH!
