Hasty Weekly News
Week of March 2- March 6
Dr. Regan Message
Greetings Parents and Guardians,
🏀 March Madness Is Coming to Hasty — Math AND Reading! 📚
March is one of our most exciting months of the year because March Madness at Hasty includes both a Math Challenge and a Reading Challenge!
All month long, our scholars will be competing, growing, and building strong habits in both academics and attendance.
🧮 i-Ready Math March Madness
📅 March 2–31
Students will work to pass i-Ready Math lessons and earn incentives along the way:
✨ 12 lessons passed – Lollipop or Air Head
🍿 16 lessons passed – Popcorn Party
🍕 20+ lessons passed – Lunchtime Pizza Party
🏆 Who Will Be the Math Winners?
- • The Top Student in Grades K–2 will earn the fan-favorite Principal’s Ride
- • The Top Student in Grades 3–5 will also earn a Principal’s Ride
- • The Top Scholar in EACH grade level will win a grand prize (robotic LEGO kits, scooters, and more!)
🎟 Bonus Attendance Prize: Any scholar who is present every single day in March will be entered into an additional prize drawing.
📚 Reading March Challenge: Oh, The Places You Will Read!
In addition to math, we are challenging our scholars to grow as readers.
Students are encouraged to read in 10 different places this month and record them on their Reading Road Map. Once completed, they can turn it in for a reading prize!
📖 Don’t forget to log minutes on the March Race to Read tracker — all trackers are due March 31.
🏆 Who Are the Reading Winners?
- • Scholars who read in 10 different locations earn a prize
- • Scholars who consistently track their reading minutes build recognition and celebration
- • Most importantly — every child who reads grows as a winner
March is about building confidence, consistency, and strong academic habits in both math and reading.
Families can support by:
- • Encouraging daily i-Ready Math lessons
- • Establishing a consistent reading routine
- • Celebrating effort and attendance
- When school and home work together, amazing things happen.
Let’s make this March Madness one to remember.
With gratitude,
Dr. Regan

Husky Safety Corner
December Safety Spotlight – Training
Our school police officers participate in multiple types of training each year. Preparedness is one of our core pillars of safety and security, and our officers are dedicated to being ready for any emergency.
We conduct a variety of internal trainings—including school-based sessions and table-top exercises with school staff—and we also partner with city and county public safety agencies to hold joint response drills. These strong relationships ensure that, if needed, we can coordinate an effective, community-wide response.
Another important area of preparation involves our District Emergency Response Team (DERT), made up of trained district staff. DERT training focuses on safely evacuating students to an off-site location and ensuring smooth, secure reunification with parents and guardians if ever needed. Each staff member has a designated role, with trainings emphasizing both security and logistics.
As always, the safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority. Ongoing training and preparation help ensure that we are ready to respond effectively in any situation. We are grateful for the partnerships in our community that allow us to maintain a safe, supportive learning environment for every student.

Hasty Families,
The Cherokee County School District (CCSD) and the Sequoyah Regional Library System have a district-wide partnership. We share the belief that a love of books and learning is a strong foundation for student success, and we are working together to provide every CCSD student access to books and resources found at their public library. The partnership will allow CCSD students access through the Sequoyah Regional Library System (SRLS) EZ Student Access program to library print and digital materials with the use of the student’s ID Number. Students will be able to access a wide variety of materials for all age ranges in both print and digital format.
~
If you choose to OPT-IN for your student to participate in this program, it eliminates the need for you to apply for a library card in person at a branch location, exempts your student from overdue fines, and allows your student to check out up to five (5) physical materials from any Sequoyah Library location at one time. You may OPT-IN to the SRLS EZ Student Access program by providing CCSD permission to share student records with the Sequoyah Regional Library System.

Familias apresuradas,

📚 Race to Read Challenge: A Fun Way to Build Lifelong Reading Habits!
Dear Families,
We’re excited to launch our Race to Read Challenge—a fun and simple way to encourage daily reading at home and build strong reading habits across our school community!
🏁 How It Works
- Each month, your child will receive a Race to Read Tracker to record their reading minutes at home and/or school.
- Students will color in one item on the tracker for every:
- 10 minutes read (PreK–2nd grade) *We encourage parents and/or family members to read with their younger children.*
- 20 minutes read (3rd–5th grade)
- The goal is to complete 20 items each month:
- That’s 200 minutes for younger students and 400 minutes for older students! We are building our reading muscles!
📦 Turning in the Tracker
- Completed trackers (with a parent signature) should be turned in by the end of each month.
- Students will drop their completed tracker into their Pack's Race to Read box located near the media center.
🏆 Pack Power Competition
- Each pack will compete to read the most minutes!
- The winning pack will be announced on the Morning News and will earn major pack points (and bragging rights) for their pack!
💡 Why It Matters
-Encourages daily reading (10–20 minutes/day)
- -No need to track specific books
-Flexible—students can read anything they enjoy!
Let’s work together to make reading fun and rewarding! Thank you for supporting your child’s reading journey!
ASP INFORMATION
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM:
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM: Rates for our After School Program, offered until 6 p.m. Mondays-Fridays at elementary schools, remain at $12 per student per day if registering for a full week with advance registration (by midnight on Sunday each week). CCSD offers online advance registration and online payment at https://ccsd.graystep.com, which also allows parents to check their balance. The rate for a single day of attendance with advance registration is $15 per student per day. While online advance registration is required, parents can continue to send checks into the school for payment if they prefer. Drop-in care (not scheduled in advance) is $20 per student per day.
BUSES
BUSES: The Bus Stop Look-Up website will open on Monday, July 28, so you can check your child's bus stop times for pick up and drop off. The Versatrans My Stop Bus Tracking System website and app, which allow you to track your child's bus on its way to the bus stop each morning and afternoon, will begin working when buses roll on Friday, Aug. 1. Please be advised that the tracking system's functionality may be impacted in the first few days to due higher than average usage.
MEALS
MEALS: Meal prices have not changed for students this school year. LINQ Connect is CCSD School Nutrition’s system for accepting online payments into your child's meal account; for listing menu items, nutritional info and allergens; and for applying for free or reduced price meals. The system will be updated July 21 with menus, and families then will be able to add more money to accounts. The money you had left in your child's meal account at the end of last school year remains in your account for use this school year. If you haven't already created an account, you can set up a LINQ Connect account online here or by downloading the app; you will need your children's student IDs (number they use to purchase meals in the cafeteria). You can continue to send checks or cash to your child's school for their meal account.
CELL PHONE RULES
CELL PHONE RULES: The standard expectations for student use of cell phones and other personal digital devices introduced last school year are continuing without changes. Students will continue to be permitted to have a cell phone or personal device with them at school, but it must be kept in silent mode and stored out of sight. Students must follow the rules outlined in the Code of Conduct posted online here. Those rules call for elementary school: devices stored out of sight at all times; middle school: devices stored out of sight at all times during the instructional day, with usage permitted before and after school; high school: devices stored out of sight during class time, with usage permitted in hallways during class transitions and in the cafeteria.
