One District, One Book!

On March 6, we launched One District, One Book! One District, One Book is a national program where schools read a common text together as a community. This year, all four NYCSD elementary schools are reading The Mouse and the Motorcycle by Beverly Cleary. Every family, teacher, and staff member received a copy of the text.

NYCSD Receives Check from The GIANT Company: Feeding School Kids Round Up Program

Each year The GIANT Company partners with school districts to combat childhood hunger. They are committed to connecting families to a better future through the 2023 Feeding School Kids initiative.

We are excited to announce that NYCSD is a recipient of @ GIANT’s Feeding School Kids Round Up program! This year, Feeding School Kids raised more than $1.35 million to expand public school feeding programs. Thanks to GIANT’s support, we are receiving $7,075.80 to support food security and food assistance initiatives within our schools. The funds received last year were used to help ease the burden of Northern Nation families with outstanding food service balances and we anticipate making this relief available once again.

Thanks to all the Northern supporting customers who rounded up at the register! Together, we are ensuring students have access to the nutrition they need to grow and fuel their education. We are thankful for the continued partnership with The GIANT Company to combat childhood hunger.

NMS Students Participate in Focus Group at the Byrnes Health Center

On March 1st, 2023, four students from Northern Middle School participated in a Focus Group at the Byrnes Health Center. These students, identified by their school team as candidates to attend the focus group, traveled to southern York County to see the newly renovated Byrnes Health Education campus and to provide feedback on their new teaching theaters which were recently "gutted and retooled" in a $4-million renovation. Together with students from other surrounding York County schools, our students were shown the new teaching tools that are now available and provided feedback on how those tools could be used most effectively. Students spent about 15 minutes in each of the new spaces which included: Nutrition and Fitness, Substance Abuse Prevention, General Health, Human Development, Body Shop for Early Learners, Social and Emotional Health, and STEM Lab. Students were also treated to snacks and gift cards for Chick-Fil-A!!! School staff were also given the opportunity to see the new theaters and engaged in discussion with Byrnes Health Education staff. The district should be proud of these model students who were wonderful ambassadors and representatives of the Northern York County School District!
