Dear KRS Families,

Happy Friday! Last night, I conducted a school tour for interested Madison residents and Mrs. Pamela Yousey presented information about the referendum. I urge you to review the referendum information on the Madison School District website. Please remember to vote on December 12, 2023!

Next week is Thanksgiving week, which means it will be a shorter week for the students. Wednesday, November 22, 2023 is an early dismissal day at 12:45 PM. Schools are closed on November 23 & 24 for the Thanksgiving holiday. We will see the students' smiling faces back at KRS on Monday, November 27, 2023.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! We are so thankful for all our KRS families, teachers, and staff!

Sincerely,

Dr. Kathy Koop

Car Line - Very important!

Under no circumstance should you leave your car while waiting in the car line. Not only is it very dangerous, but it also delays the entire drop-off/pick-up process. There are staff members assigned to the car line area during the drop-off/pick-up times in case you need assistance. Thank you!

News from KRS Media Specialist Mr. Locke!

This past week I have been teaching lessons based off of the picture book The Very Last Leaf by Stef Wade and Jennifer Davison. This witty and versatile book - about a leaf who is afraid to fall from the tree in autumn - enables me to teach both SEL lessons to younger students as well as introduce research database use to older students. K-3 students drew and wrote about life events that were new and frightening and how they overcame their fears. 4th and 5th grade students learned how to divide the topic of deciduous trees into subtopics. Then I showed 4th and 5th grade students Jersey Clicks, NJ’s free online state library, which presents topics visually as boxes which can be selected to reveal further subtopic boxes to teach students the concept of focusing their research. I introduced students to the concept of focusing their research and formulating their own self-generated guided inquiry questions to develop ownership of their learning and agency as they apply their research to their community and problem solve.

Outdoor Recess

We will be going outside for recess throughout the school year, even during cold winter days. Indoor recess occurs only if the temperature and/or the play area is unsafe because of the weather conditions. Please make sure that your child is prepared to play in cold weather. Thank you!
