The HSD Equity Committee is composed of educators from each of our seven buildings, students, district level folks, and local equity consultants. They bring intentional equity work into the schools by providing resources and support to their colleagues and peers, offer a lens that considers the most marginalized communities, and promote a culture of curiosity, inclusion, and belonging.

3.9% of our HSD families are multilingual!

There are over 15 different languages spoken in the homes of our Hartford Families:

Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, Creole/Pidgins, English, Filipino, Gujarati, Haitian/Haitian Creole, Hindi, Portuguese, Pushto/Pashto, Romanian/Moldavian/Moldovan, Spanish/Castilian, Tagalog, Thai, Turkish

People of the Global Majority are those who identify as Black, Indigenous, People of Color, Multiracial, and/or Hispanic.

8.5% of HSD students identify as BIPOC or Multiracial.

5.5 % of HSD students identify as Hispanic.

The HSD is growing in its multiculturalism and it's beautiful!

Dartmouth Students in the Education Design Course are partnering up with members of the Equity Committee to design a framework for welcoming multilingual students. The project will focus on the first few months of experience that a new student has with our school district and how to help them belong in the school community and in the Vision of a Graduate principles. We'll gather information through co-creation sessions and interviews with stakeholders. What is developed this Fall will be piloted in the Winter and Spring.
