Kindergarten Homework & Chromebook Information

Dear Kindergarten Families,

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Back to School Night! It was wonderful seeing so many of our families and having the opportunity to welcome you into our school and classrooms. We know we shared a lot of information, so I wanted to follow up with some important information about homework and the Chromebooks that were sent home.

Chromebooks

Each student received a Chromebook to keep at home for homework and educational activities. Chromebooks should remain at home and do not need to travel back and forth to school each day.

Please remember that district Chromebooks are for educational purposes only. We appreciate your help monitoring your child's use of the device at home.

If you experience a problem with the Chromebook or charger, please contact your child's teacher so we can help.

Your child can use either the touchscreen or touchpad—whichever is easiest for them. The Chromebook can also fold into a tablet, which may make it easier for our kindergarten students to use.

Helpful Tip: Take a picture of your child's QR code and save it on your phone. You can then use the picture to help your child log in if needed.

What Does Kindergarten Homework Look Like?

At the Kindergarten Center, homework is meant to practice and reinforce skills that your child is already learning at school. Homework should not introduce new material or become a stressful experience for your child or family.

Teachers may assign math and reading/language arts practice connected to what students are learning in class. On days when a specific assignment is not needed, students may be asked to practice general skills such as letter sounds, reading fluency, number recognition, counting, or other skills they are currently working on.

Your child's teacher will provide information about specific assignments and expectations.

Finding Homework in ClassLink

ClassLink is where your child can access the programs we use for homework.

IXL – Math practice
Waggle – English Language Arts practice. Look for the smiley face icon!

When your child logs into the Chromebook, ClassLink should open in the second tab. You can also access it by clicking the home icon next to the address bar.

You can even rearrange the app icons to make your child's most-used programs easier to find. Simply press and hold an icon and drag it to a new location.

Homework Time

Please follow the homework schedule and directions provided by your child's teacher.

We know our students are only five and six years old! If completing the recommended amount of practice is difficult at first, start with what your child can successfully manage and gradually build their stamina. Setting a timer can also be a helpful way to make homework time predictable.

Homework should be an opportunity to practice, build confidence, and show you some of the wonderful things your child is learning at school.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. We appreciate everything you are doing at home to help our youngest Royals grow and learn!
