Principal's Message
Once again, we enter into the season of anticipation beginning with Advent and leading up to Christmas morning. As a Catholic educational community, we pause once again to retell our biblical story of Jesus’ birth. We invite our students to reflect on this story and the meaning of it for them today.
Thank you to our Catholic School Council who have been busily planning our Terra Cotta Cookie Fundraiser and to our staff for planning our Christmas Open House. Students will have an opportunity to have their picture taken with Santa, Visit our Photo Booth, participate in Cookie Decorating, Christmas crafts, Karaoke and Christmas cheer. It is sure to be a very special evening for all!
May the true spirit of Christmas bring you much happiness and best wishes for a Christmas that is filled with joy and a New Year that is bright with blessings!
Mrs. Dalli & Mrs. Hukil
December: Virtue of Hope
During the month of December we will focus on the virtue of Hope .
God helps us to work for a more peaceful world even when we feel discouraged.
From the perspective of the Catholic Graduate Expectations, a person of Hope…
- Sees more good than evil in the world
- Acts legally and morally
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Rom. 15:13)

ANGEL at Aidan's
This holiday season, our York University student teachers are hosting a fundraiser called Angel at Aidan's! This fundraiser is to help support families within our community. We will be collecting new socks, hats and mittens until December 11.
Donations from students will be collected daily from home room classes. The class with the most donations wins a pizza party!
Food Calendar for December
Dropping off Lunch
Parents are welcome to drop off their child(ren)'s lunch to our lunch table. Please be sure it is labelled with their name and teacher. If children will be going home for lunch each day, it is our expectation that your child will go directly to their own home and then return to school. A written note signed by a parent/guardian will be required for any students who normally stay for lunch to go out for lunch. Students are encouraged to arrive at school with a full, reusable water bottle along with snacks and lunch each day.
Please note that 3rd party delivery is not permitted.
Due to safety reasons St. Aidan school will not accept food deliveries for students from any third party delivery services.
Birthday Book Club
Flames Birthday Book Club celebrated September and October birthdays! Our first celebration was a huge success!
We all had a lot of fun.
Catholic Parent Council
The meeting is on December 4, 2024 from 6:30pm - 7:30pm.
EQUITY CORNER
Check out the grade 7-8 girls club at St. Aidan participating in the Go Girls program with mentors from Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Peel and our CYW. The club has been running weekly for 7 weeks. The program focuses on physical activity, encourages balanced eating, positive self-esteem and communication skills. Way to go!
We had our first Teen Mentoring and BCAC Teen Mentoring session in through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peel York!! 19 Mentors from St. Edmund Campion School have been matched with students from St. Aidan Catholic School, and they will meet weekly for the school year. This group is facilitated by Natalie Brammah, Bryson Landriault and Ashantee Jones-Okere. We look forward to seeing these matches flourish throughout the school year!”

Youth Faith Ambassadors
In the month of November St. Aidan´s Youth Faith Ambassadors have been very busy. Anti-bullying week took place Nov 18-22. The Youth Faith Ambassadors prepared Anti-bullying presentations for the entire school with a focus on inclusion and standing up against bullying. They also educated students on ¨interruptions¨. Interruptions are the way students can comfortably stop offensive (racial or otherwise) language and discussions. We also wrote and had every classroom sign an antibullying pledge. We promise to take a stand against bullying by using the virtues of respect, empathy and kindness.
Thank you to Mr. C for taking us on an inclusive adventure in the land of cruiser sports. As last year, our students enjoyed every moment of their sessions. Learning what sports feel like from a different point of view. This is true equity in action! The staff vs. students basketball game ended in a 6 to 3 victory for the St. Aidan staff!! Thank you to everyone for making this week special.

Student Council
In November, St. Aidan's student council put together and presented a Remembrance Day Liturgy for all classes. They created a beautiful and thoughtful liturgy to commemorate the important day. On November 11, St. Aidan staff and students gathered in the gym for the liturgy. Our student council demonstrated responsibility, leadership, and respect while presenting the liturgy. Next up, the student council will be planning some fun activities for the Christmas season.

Eco Schools
During the week of November 4-8 our ECO Warriors encouraged our classes to celebrate outdoor learning by providing teachers and students with activities that would promote the
importance of reconnecting with nature. Students participated in scavenger hunts, creating nature bracelets and nature portraits and simply just playing outside!
Cold and Flu Season
In colder weather we often receive requests to allow students to remain indoors when students have a cold, flu etc.. Please note that we cannot comply, as we have neither the facilities nor the staff to supervise these students. We ask that you please use discretion in keeping your child at home to recover if they are ill.
A child who is wheezing, coughing and/or has a fever is not in a state to learn and will only
infect others. We remind parents that if students are well enough to attend school, they are well enough to go outside for recess.
With the cold weather upon us, heavier coats, hats, gloves, scarves and all other winter paraphernalia are definitely the order of the day. Please remember to label all items of clothing so that lost items may be easily found. When students are at school, they are expected to fully participate in all aspects of the program, which includes outdoor recess. At this time, it is also advisable that students bring an indoor pair of shoes that may be left at school.
LATE ARRIVALS
Being on time is a life skill which students need to be successful in the future. A student is considered late if the school bell has rung and they are not in line and entering the school with their classmates. Being consistently and continuously late interrupts the classroom during lessons, creates delays in the office and sets a poor example for those who do arrive on time. Please note that a letter will be sent home to those students who are habitually late and the school Social Worker may be involved in order to discuss these late arrivals.
Registration Information for Students with Differing Abilities
Self-Identification Option for Indigenous Families
If you are First Nation (Status Indian or Non-Status Indian), Métis and/or Inuit you can self-identify as Indigenous. You do not need to produce any documentation or proof of ancestry. Self-identification is voluntary and confidential.
“This has been really important for us because of the sense of community and the connection to other Indigenous families.” ~ Melanie Cormier, parent
Self-identification will provide access to culture and language programs and monthly programming for students and families. Relevant information will be sent directly to you about upcoming cultural events and opportunities which help to build community and a sense of Indigenous pride in Dufferin-Peel.
To learn more about opportunities for Indigenous students and families please visit: https://www3.dpcdsb.org/students/indigenous-self-identification
School Volunteers
Just a reminder that if you are interested in volunteering within the school in any capacity, including field trips, student support, Catholic School Council member, etc., a Valid Criminal Reference Check (CRC), with Vulnerable Sector and Local Records Check is required. Due to COVID closures and not having volunteers in the schools for multiple years, many of our filed CRC and CRC Annual Declarations have lapsed. Therefore, we would like to begin now for any possible volunteer opportunities that may arise this year. Please note that there may be some time required to process a CRC, thus waiting for an announced volunteer opportunity to obtain your CRC may not provide sufficient time for processing. Therefore, we are asking all parents that if you feel that you may be interested in volunteering in any capacity in the school this year, it may be best to start the process now.
ATTENDANCE VERIFICATION
It is important for students to be at school on time and ready to work. When students are late they miss important information and routines. We realize that throughout the year there will be times that your child will be away from school.
SafeArrival is an application within SchoolMessenger that will allow parents/guardians to report their children’s absences in one of the following three ways:

- Do not eat, drink, swear, fight or chew gum on the bus
- Do not put arms out the window, or throw items or garbage out the window

Peel Public Health
Vaccine clinics for routine immunizations Grade 7 and 8
Vaccine clinics for routine immunizations Human Papillomavirus (HPV-9), Hepatitis B (Hep B), and Meningococcal ACYW-135 are coming to our school! To help protect your child from severe diseases and get them back on track, Peel Public Health will be offering these immunizations to Grade 7 and 8 students at school. Please complete a consent form to ensure your child is vaccinated during the clinic dates at their school. Visit Peel Region’s website and follow the instructions to print and fill out the consent form and the standard assessment questionnaire. Please return the completed form to the school before or on the morning of the clinic date. Students who have an existing consent from earlier this school year or previous years, or if parents completed an online or verbal consent, do not need to complete a new consent (unless your consent choice has changed). If you have any questions or want to learn more, please visit peelregion.ca/immunize or call Peel Public Health at 905- 799-7700.
