Haymarket Elementary School Haymarket Elementary School

Dear Haymarket Families,

As April’s spring showers arrive, they bring a sense of renewal and continued growth throughout our school. Our students are focused and continuing to show strong academic growth as they engage in meaningful learning each day. They are working hard to meet high expectations, and we are proud of the effort they demonstrate in their classrooms. In addition, students continue to model positive behavior by showing respect, responsibility, and kindness, helping to maintain a supportive and welcoming school environment.

This month begins an important time for our students in grades 3–5 as state testing gets underway. We are confident in the hard work and preparation our students have shown. You can support your child by helping them maintain a consistent routine, including getting plenty of rest, eating a healthy breakfast, and arriving at school on time each day.

April Testing Dates:

  • April 27–28: 5th Grade Reading SOL

  • April 29–30: 4th Grade Reading SOL

April brings a full calendar of events and opportunities for our school community. We encourage you to stay connected by reviewing the important dates in this newsletter. Together, we will continue supporting our students as they grow, achieve, and finish the school year strong.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support!

Mr. Seymour and Mrs. Shore

Global Youth Service Day: April 24-26 Global Youth Service Day: April 24-26

Youth Service Month is April 10-May 10!

Haymarket SCA received a grant from The Hershey Company & Youth Service America to promote a philanthropic project. Caragh O. (SCA Chief of Philanthropy) and Brady D. (SCA President), along with former SCA members, Senan O. and Brooklyn D. researched about animal welfare, adoption, and local stats for the Prince William Animal Shelter. They worked together to apply for the grant. SCA members are organizing a Cubs for Pups Workshop - Getting Pets a Home philanthropic project to make adoption materials and toys to help increase adoption rates and reduce euthanasia rates at the PW Animal Shelter. Thank you to these hard-working students, the Hershey Company, and Youth Service America!

Early Dismissal Early Dismissal

Whenever possible, please email your child's teacher the day before you need to pick your child up early. Doing this the day before ensures the teacher sees the email and can have your child packed up. This saves time, especially when you're picking your child up during lunch, recess or Encore. Any changes to transportation should be reported to the office by 3:15 PM. All early dismissals are required by 3:30 PM to allow for a smooth dismissal to the day. IDs are required when picking up your student for early dismissal.

Reading Makes Cents Reading Makes Cents

Dear Parent/Guardian: Haymarket Elementary School is happy to be participating in Reading Makes Cents, a statewide reading program for children in kindergarten through eighth grade focusing on personal finance concepts. Through this year’s selection of books, students will learn financial concepts such as the value of working to earn money, the importance of saving, the idea of prioritizing wants, and being good decision-makers. These are valuable life lessons that will benefit students as they grow up. Our school also will earn 3 free books for our library, which I’m very excited to share with my students. Plus, if our school has the highest student participation rate within our region at the program’s close, we will earn an additional $500 worth of books. With your child’s participation, I know we can do it! To participate: Encourage your child to read (or listen to or watch a video!) 5 books as explained on the attached Reading Challenge form. Full information and details are available at ReadingMakesCents.com. Every child who submits a completed Reading Challenge form, certified by a parent or guardian, is entered into a drawing to win one of 14 Invest529SM savings accounts with an initial balance of $529, to grow year over year. (Entries are due May 22, 2026) As you know, education after high school is more important than ever before, whether it’s a degree from a 2 or 4-year college, an industry certification, or some other credential. As sponsors of the program, SOAR Virginia, Invest529 and the Virginia Council on Economic Education aim to help families start saving early for higher education expenses. Setting this expectation has been proven key to pursuing higher education. Your signature on the Reading Challenge form is needed for Invest529 to contact you if your child is a $529 savings account winner. Also, you may be provided with additional information on saving for higher education but can opt out at any time. Your information will not be sold or used for any other purpose. If you have any questions, please contact Ryane Zenoniani, Librarian at zenonire@pwcs.edu. We’re thrilled to participate in this exciting program and pleased to offer your child the opportunity to learn alongside us. I personally can’t wait to see your student involved, engaged and, most of all, reading! Sincerely, Mrs. Zenoniani Librarian
