Newsletter March 31, 2025

Dear NRHS Community,

I hope this message finds you doing well. We are in the final week of Quarter 3 with the end of the term on Friday, April 4th.

Last week I had the pleasure of joining Superintendent Downing and NRHS senior Emily Barrett at a luncheon and awards event at Holy Cross. Emily is the 2025 NRHS recipient of the Worcester County Superintendent's Award, which recognizes distinguished students from high schools in Worcester County. Congratulations Emily!

Rotary Construction Update:

Tree clearing has begun on 117 at the intersections of Green and Forbush Mill Roads. Rotary construction is expected to begin in full in April, continue throughout the summer and wrap up in the fall. The town of Bolton will make every effort to have police details present and maintain two lanes of traffic especially at arrival and dismissal times. However, please be mindful that there will be increased traffic and giving yourself a few extra minutes of drive time is advisable.

We have some exciting student experiences coming up later this month with our French Exchange Trip, our DECA nationals competition, and Robotics competitions. I am looking forward to sharing highlights from these events!

I also want to congratulate Emily Barrett and Alexis Prybyla as our Valedictorian and Salutatorian for the NRHS class of 2025!

Important Dates:

  • Friday, April 4th - End of Quarter 3
  • Saturday, April 5th - International Fest
  • Friday, April 11th - Early Release for students
  • Friday, April 11th - Reality Fair Event for Grade 10
  • Monday, April 14th - Grades finalized in Powerschool for Q3
  • Thursday, April 17th - School Council meeting 6-7pm
  • April 21-25 - April Vacation - No School

Have a wonderful week!

Romantic Riches: music by Mendelssohn and Brahms -- Sounds of Stow Spring Concert

Join the Sounds of Stow Chorus & Orchestra for their 46th season Spring concert on April 13, 2025, at 2pm. The concert will be held at the convenient and state-of-the-art venue, the Littleton High School at 56 King Street in Littleton, MA (just off I-495).

Under the direction of Barbara Jones, the chorus and orchestra will explore “Romantic Riches”, starting with Beethoven's exuberant Piano Concerto #1, performed by the phenomenal Sonya Ovrutsky Fensome, one of our favorite musical guests. Choral music by Mendelssohn (the beautiful opening movement of Psalm 42) and Brahms follows. The “Four Songs for Women’s Chorus, Two Horns and Harp” (Vier Gesange), are the epitome of Romantic expression. Brahm’s great motets - “Schicksalslied” (Song of Fate) and “Nanie” (Elegy) explore the eternal quest for meaning and reassurance in the midst of the uncertainties of the human condition. Line by line texts in English will be shown during the performance, accompanied by appropriate images of 19th century artwork, further illuminating the emotional content of the works.

For further information and tickets, please visit www.soundsofstow.org or email info@soundsofstow.org. Sounds of Stow is supported in part by the Massachusetts Cultural Council as administered by the local cultural councils of Stow, Acton-Boxborough, Bolton, Carlisle and Hudson.

Stow Lions Volunteer Opportunity

On Sunday, April 13th we will be hosting an Easter Bunny Breakfast at the Center School in Stow. We would love to have volunteers to help with many activities, including:

  • Crafts / face painting / temporary tattoos

  • Hockey shooting game

  • Pictures with the Easter Bunny (we have the costume, need someone to fill it and help parents take pictures)

  • Making and serving of breakfast

  • Cleanup as needed

The event runs from 8:00am - 12:30pm. We could use help between 7am-1pm and suggest a minimum of a 2-hour shift (though we'd love them to stay longer). You can have any interested students (or parents) contact me or Gordan Schaubhut. Please have them include their name and the times they are available to help. It should be fun!

Thank you!

Eric

International Fest!

The third annual Nashoba InternationalFest, will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 12-3 p.m. at NRHS. This is a DISTRICT event that celebrates the cultural diversity of our district’s students, families, and communities.

InternationalFest offers demonstrations, displays, performances, and foods featuring the many cultures of our community members. We need your help publicizing the event in order to get families, staff members, and community volunteers to share their culture and heritage through food, music, arts, performances, brief talks, demonstrations, etc.

Sincerely,

The NRHS International Club
