Welcome back from spring break! We hope everyone had an enjoyable time away from school whether it was relaxing or holidaying. Our Parent-Teacher Interview night on March 13 was a great time for parents to connect with teachers about student progress. We held 348 interviews and it was awesome to see many families in our school. Parents, please continue to reach out to teachers and administrators if you have questions.

Music Festival season is upon us and we are excited to see how our music students fare this spring. Good luck to our music students and Mr. Green who are heading to Quebec for a fast-paced and fun-filled tour! Basketball season went well with a shout out to our Senior Girls for making Provincial Championships in Sylvan Lake!

On March 20, parents were able to attend an informative Screens & Teens presentation with psychologist Maria Skriver. We trust that this opportunity provided parents with some tricks and tips in navigating healthy device usage with their children. Thanks to our Parent Advisory Committee for setting this up.

Students are in the process of selecting their courses for next year in Powerschool. Parents, please discuss course plans with your student. Student course picks directly determine our course configurations so it is important that students work with us on completing this task. From this data, we generate the timetable. Students will be able to view their 2025-26 schedules in June and will be able to make necessary timetable changes at that point.

Please contact us with any questions.

Dear Parents and Guardians of BRSD:

Subject: Welcome Back from Spring Break and Important Updates

I hope you and your family had a wonderful and refreshing Spring Break! As we return to school for the final stretch of the year, I want to take a moment to thank you for your continued support of Battle River School Division.

A special thank you to all who participated in our BRSD Stakeholder Engagement Survey. We are grateful to have received feedback from 3,529 participants! Your input is invaluable in shaping our schools and ensuring the best possible learning experiences for our students. A quick review of the results indicated that an impressive 82% of parents and guardians feel welcomed and included in their child's school community, highlighting the positive and supportive environment fostered by our schools. This reflects the strong connections between families and school staff, building a sense of belonging.

April brings two important celebrations:

  • Education Week: April 7 to 11
This is a time to recognize and celebrate the incredible learning that takes place every day in our schools.
  • National Volunteer Week: April 27 to May 3
We are incredibly grateful for the many volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to supporting
our students and staff. Whether you help in the classroom, coach a team, assist with special events,
or contribute in any other way, your efforts make a difference, and we truly appreciate you!

Additionally, we are sharing important information regarding measles to ensure the health and safety of our school communities. Linked here is a letter to school authorities regarding measles awareness and prevention. We encourage you to review this information and reach out to Alberta Health Services if you have any questions.

Thank you for being an essential part of BRSD. Together, we continue to create a positive and engaging environment where every student can succeed.

Sincerely,

Rhae-Ann Holoien
Superintendent of Schools

Dear Parents and Guardians,

ECCHS has planned the 2026 International Travel trip to Greece. This journey promises to be an unforgettable adventure that combines historical exploration, cultural immersion, and personal growth. Greece, often referred to as the cradle of Western civilization, offers our students a unique chance to step into a living museum of ancient history. Students will have the opportunity to explore the Acropolis in Athens, visit important archaeological sites such as Delphi and Olympia, learn about Greek mythology, and observe how ancient traditions have shaped contemporary Greek society. Students will experience Greek culture firsthand through interacting with friendly locals, sampling authentic cuisine, and witnessing the blend of ancient ruins and modern life in Greek cities.

This trip will provide invaluable opportunities for our students to develop independence and confidence, broaden their global perspective, practice language skills, and form lasting friendships with classmates through shared experiences. We believe this trip to Greece will be an enriching experience that your child will cherish for a lifetime. It's not just a vacation; it's an immersive journey through time, culture, and natural wonders that will complement their classroom learning in profound ways.

More details about the itinerary, costs, and important dates will be provided at the parent’s information meeting on April 1st at 6:30 PM in our Learning Commons.

Basketball

Once again, ÉCCHS has had a highly successful basketball season. Our Grade 9 teams kicked things off with their championship tournaments, setting a high standard. The Grade 9 girls, ranked as the top seed in the West Division, traveled to Sedgewick, where they battled hard throughout the weekend. In a tough final against Sedgewick, they ultimately finished as runners-up. Meanwhile, our Grade 9 boys, having secured first place in league play, hosted their championship tournament. They carried their dominant regular-season form into the finals, overpowering the competition to claim back-to-back championships.

Our junior teams followed a similar path. The JV girls, seeded second, traveled to Sylvan Lake for their championship. After a strong semifinal performance, they faced a formidable Sylvan Lake team in the final. Despite an early deficit, they fought until the end, narrowly missing out on the title and finishing second. The JV boys, like their Grade 9 counterparts, earned the right to host their final tournament as the top team in league play. In the semifinals, they encountered a red-hot OLMP team and unfortunately fell short. However, they showed tremendous resilience in the bronze medal game, dominating HJ Cody from Sylvan Lake to secure third place.

Our senior teams have led by example all season. The senior boys were ranked as the No. 4 3A team in the province for most of the year. After an undefeated league run, they entered their zone championship as the top-seeded central team. Facing league rival Wetaskiwin in a best-of-three zone final, they played with heart but were ultimately edged out by a red-hot Wetaskiwin squad. Throughout the season, they demonstrated character, winning with humility and losing with grace.

The senior girls also had a standout season, finishing first in league play and earning the right to host all their playoff games. In the semifinals, they faced the No. 4-ranked team in the province and provincial championship host, HJ Cody. Though they fell short, they held one of the highest-scoring teams to one of their lowest point totals of the season. With HJ Cody hosting provincials, our girls had one more chance to qualify—and they seized the opportunity. In a thrilling, winner-takes-all game against zone rival Wetaskiwin, they delivered one of their best performances of the season, securing a spot at the provincial championship. They now head to HJ Cody as the 11th-ranked team in the province.

Badminton

Our Grade 9 and high school badminton teams have been selected and are now preparing for their upcoming tournaments in April. Singles and mixed teams practice after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while all doubles teams practice on Mondays and Wednesdays.

The Grade 9 divisional tournament will take place on April 10, hosted at ÉCCHS, ÉCKS, and the Field House, with the regional tournament following on April 17 at the same venues.

For high school players, the City/County meet is scheduled for April 2, and the Area meet will be held on April 9—both hosted at ÉCCHS. Zones are set for April 16, also at ÉCCHS, while Provincials will take place on May 2–3 in Red Deer.
