FMS Weekly Update 1.17.25
January 5, 2025
Week of January 19, 2025
From the Desk of Our Proud Principal
Good evening, Trojan Families!
This is a message from your proud principal, Mrs. Kinard, and the school leaders at Ferndale Middle School. We strongly encourage you to access the digital version of this announcement, available on our school website and social media. It contains additional important information that you and your students need to know.
Good Evening Trojan Parents,
I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to remind you that Monday, January 20, 2025, will be a school holiday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Schools will be closed.
We also want to prepare for the possibility of inclement weather. In the event of bad weather, Guilford County Schools will make the decision regarding student attendance and provide further instructions on next steps. Please stay tuned to district communications for updates.
We’ve sent home devices with all students. In case of school closure, students will be able to access remote learning resources through the FMS EOG Prep Canvas Course. We want to make sure they stay on track, even if weather affects our in-person schedule.
However, if the weather does not impact school operations, we will proceed with NWEA Testing for all students next week. Please assist us by ensuring that your child brings their device back to school with them.
Thank you for your continued support, and please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

MATH MOMENTUM
The Math Department is excited to see our Math scholars demonstrate their Math knowledge and prowess on upcoming district and national assessments. We continue to evaluate the best ways to determine how well scholars have understood and retained math concepts, terms, and vocabulary. They will be take the NWEA Math MAPS and Second District Math Interim Assessment over the next several weeks. The NWEA Math MAPS assessment will compare their scores to other scholars in the same grade across the country while the District Interim Assessment will compare their scores to other scholars in the same grade across the district. There are math assignments online under Grade Level "EOG Prep" if Remote Learning is necessary this week.
There are also ways that math can be supported at home included in the schematic below.
