Students of the Week
Each week, as part of our PBIS program, a student in each grade level is nominated for the Student of the Week. Students may be recognized for displaying one or more of the six Pillars of Character Counts, or the GRMS Expectations of Growth, Respect, Mindfullness, Safety.
Deputy's Student of the Month
Our YRD (Youth Resource Deputy), Deputy Gomez, is recognizing an outstanding student each month. Staff will provide nominations from which he will choose one student to recognize on the last of each month. Students will receive a certificate, picture with Deputy Gomez, a YRD coin, a SJSO uniform patch, a $10 gift card, and 5 PBIS tickets. Our first Student of the Month is 8th grader Acacia Miller. Congratulations to Acacia and her family!
FAST PM1 Testing
The first progress monitoring session for FAST (PM1) begins on Monday. Please see the schedule below as well as the letter attached. Thank you for getting your student to school on-time. This is always important, even more so when these testing sessions are occurring as it can be a disruption to everyone if entering the room after testing has begun.
Monday and Tuesday, September 8th and 9th – 8th grade
Thursday and Friday, September 11th and 12th – 7th grade
Monday and Tuesday, September 15th and 16th – 6th grade
BW's Best of the Week
Our Media Center Specialist, Mrs. Bohanan, put together a cool lesson for students as they learn more about the library. See below, as well as some pictures that follow. Thank you Mrs. Bohanan!
Over the past two weeks ELA classes have been coming to the media center for library orientation. They learned about resources available, book check out policies, and participated in a scavenger hunt to learn about the various sections of the library. Students worked in teams to answer questions about the library, and the winning group in each class got to spin the prize wheel!
Schoolwide Fundraiser
Help support the entire student body at GRMS by participating in our schoolwide Charleston Wrap fundraiser. Proceeds will go towards our PBiS program to reward students as they show the qualities of the Character Counts! Pillars and G – Growth, R – Respect, M – Mindful, S – Safety (PBIS Schoolwide Expectations). We have weekly and quarterly activities, field days, and other activities throughout the year. We also have drawings at the end of each quarter where students having earned and submitted their tickets are eligible for higher priced rewards. We earned a little short of $3000 last year and only a small percentage of students participated. Our goal is $6000 this year. We appreciate your support but please only purchase things you would use and comfortably within your discretionary budget. Attached are letters on how to participate as well as incentives for students. Below is also an update on how we are progressing towards our goal.

D(b)ad Jokes of the Week
Why do melons have weddings? Because they cantaloupe.
The wedding was so beautiful, even the cake was in tiers.
What's the difference between ignorance and indifference? I don't know and I don't care.
