First of all, thank you to our many grandparents who help guide, care give, and even raise our students. They pick up for appointments and when students are sick, or transport to and from school. Grandparents are the epitome of the village it takes to raise a child. Thank you for all you do!
Ms. Pulido and I included pictures of our grandbabies just for fun!
This week I am most looking forward to the Holmes/NSITE AP Recognition Night on Wednesday in the auditorium at 7pm. This celebration congratulates every student who scored a 3 or more on an AP exam this past year. What a way to acknowledge students who earned college credit! I signed a ton of certificates last week. Can't wait to honor this amazing accomplishment.
Many of our magnet activities are either ramping up or faculty and staff are in the final preparation stages for getting started. Cyberpatriots has already started meeting. BPA is happening shortly. Academy Board is ongoing. Ms. Gutierrez sought volunteers to be mentors and to help with recruiting. Let's not forget athletics, eSports, and fine arts. There are lots of ways to get involved!
Here is what is going on at NSITE!

ATTN: 10th & 11th Graders
If you have not done so already, please be sure to register for the PSAT which will be given during the school day on Wednesday, October 21st.11th graders have a myriad of opportunities based on their PSAT scores to include recognition, scholarships, as well as being contacted by colleges and universities. Sophomores can also earn recognition and college and university contact, but the main benefit is being exposed to the PSAT before it becomes high stakes testing.
10th and 11th grade students must follow the registration instructions below in order to take the test. There is no fee.
9th grade NSITE students have already been registered for this test.
Cell Phones & Devices
Please review this clarification regarding our school’s cell phone policy and enforcement procedures to help us maintain a safe, focused learning environment.
Cell Phone Policy Expectations- Phones and personal communication devices must be put away and not used during the entire school day. (8:50-4:20) This rule applies to:
Classrooms
Hallways
Passing periods
Lunch
Parents, it is incredibly helpful if you avoid texting or calling your student during the school day. We are happy to relay important messages through our NSITE office by phone or email. When leaving or sending a message, please be sure to indicate your student's name, grade, and ID number if possible.
College Resources
As the parent of a senior, I know the anxiety associated with feeling like neither you nor your student is prepared for the journey to college. Let's be honest. For many of us, that anxiety hits 9th grade year or even earlier! BigFuture sponsored by College Board is one resource that I have accessed and encouraged my own children to utilize in the search for career advice, college planning, and financial aid. They offer a website for parents and include free webinars about a ton of post-high school issues. It could be a great way to start if you haven't already!

Updated Safety Procedures & Systems
If you are visiting campus for a meeting or coming to check your student out, you may have noticed some new procedures in place. The first is the camera and intercom system at the front door. When you push the button, we will ask you to identify yourself, indicate why you need access to campus, and to produce your driver's license or ID.
Once you've been buzzed in and come up the stairs, you will see a kiosk where you will sign in and tell us what brings you to campus today. Be prepared! It will ask to take a photo of your ID and it will take a picture of you as well. Be aware that if your student has athletics 8th period, you may want to pick them up during 7th.
Students who get dropped off after an appointment will use this system to sign back in to campus as well.
Student IDs
We are required by the Texas Educational Agency to keep all exterior doors locked throughout the entire school day.
A valid student ID is required to enter a secure building. You MUST have a student ID every day and visible while on campus.
Parents, guardians, and visitors are required to present a state issued ID to enter the front office and conduct school business.
Student IDs are also required to collect a breakfast or lunch tray and to enter the school bus.
Students, please DO NOT bang or kick on exterior doors to be let into a building. This can cause damage to our doors and our campus—and could also result in costly repairs. which you will be responsible for. Knocking on exterior doors is disruptive to the students who arrived on time.
Find an administrator or staff member to open the door for you. More importantly, let’s work on getting to class on time so we don’t have to wait at all!
Only students with off campus lunch privileges may leave during their assigned lunch period. Exiting the campus without permission through unauthorized areas is dangerous and will result in disciplinary action.
