Inside ScoopHockinson High School - 2024-2025

December 13, 2024 December 13, 2024

Hello, Hawks:

Happy Friday! I cannot believe how quickly 2024 is wrapping up. Next week is the last week before winter break. In our weekly Student Leadership Sessions (ANY student is welcome to attend, by the way), I share a challenge. Here is the latest one - thank a staff member, and be specific about what you're so thankful for. Here's an example - "Mr. Fox, thank you for playing incredibly soothing smooth jazz every day in the Commons. It calms my nerves!" What a great gift to give to a staff member at Hockinson High School. Give it a try next week!

Also, check out the Spirit Week schedule for next week.

Pertussis Information Pertussis Information

Whooping cough, or pertussis, is spreading in Clark County, including in local schools. Whooping cough is very contagious and spreads easily through the air when someone coughs or sneezes. Whooping cough begins with cold-like symptoms and a cough that gets worse over 1-2 weeks. If your child has symptoms of whooping cough, talk to their health care provider right away. If they take antibiotics, they will not be contagious after five days. Without antibiotics, they can be contagious for more than three weeks. Children who get whooping cough must stay home from school until they’re no longer contagious. Ensuring children are up to date on whooping cough vaccines can prevent them from getting sick and spreading the illness to others. More information for parents is available in this handout.

Student-Athlete of the Week Student-Athlete of the Week

Athlete of the Week - Olivia Archuleta (3-1) led the charge for Hockinson, placing 3rd in her bracket and earning 15 team points. After pinning Cassidy Sanchez (St. Helens) in the quarterfinals, Archuleta faced a tough loss to Hermiston’s Lily Foreman in the semifinals. She rebounded impressively in the consolation rounds, securing a dominant 22-9 major decision over Jaideny Orozco Avila and pinning Madeline Allen (Yamhill-Carlton) in just 33 seconds to claim the bronze. Her determination and technique were a highlight of the tournament for the Hawks.

She is a first year wrestler and it was her first match and tournament.
