Electronic & Mobile Communication Devices (Cell Phones & Smart Watches)
As part of our ongoing effort to keep families informed, this week we're highlighting our district's policy on cell phones and smart watches (Governing Board Policy 5131.8).
Key Policy Points:
✔ Students may bring cell phones to school, but devices must be turned off during the school day. Smart watches must be stored in a student's backpack or in the teacher's classroom during the school day.
🔒 Privacy matters: Mobile devices may not be used in any way that infringes on the privacy rights of others.
⚠️ Unauthorized use may result in confiscation of the device and potential disciplinary action.
🔍 Searches of devices: If a school official has reasonable suspicion that a device contains evidence of a policy or legal violation, a search may be conducted in accordance with our Search and Seizure policy (BP/AR 5145.12).
🏠 Off-campus use counts too: Students may face disciplinary action for off-campus device use that threatens the safety of students, staff, or district property — or that substantially disrupts school activities.
📵 The district is not responsible for any personal device that is lost, stolen, or damaged on campus or at a school activity.
Governing Board Policy 5131.8
Reminder to Families: Please talk with your child(ren) about keeping their phones and smart watches off and stored away during the school day and encourage them to go through the proper channels of communication which is through the office or their teacher if they need to communicate with you during the school day. One of the life skills we would like our Falcons to learn is how to communicate with the caring adults around them. Your support helps us maintain a focused, safe, and respectful learning environment for all.
