SEMESTER 1 FINALS
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Mitchell High School Families,
Last week marked the start of our winter STAR Benchmark assessment window. Due to the snow day and late start last week, the window has been extended and will now close on Wednesday, December 10. Parents and guardians, please remind your students to approach these assessments with character, integrity, and academic honesty, as these are critical measures of their growth and our school’s success. Your encouragement makes a difference. Let’s keep students focused!
Our winter athletic season is officially underway! Both boys’ and girls’ basketball teams kicked things off by competing in the La Junta tournament last week. We’re proud of their hard work and sportsmanship.
On Friday evening, our talented Thespians showcased incredible performances in preparation for the Thescon State Competition. Their dedication and creativity will soon shine on the state stage!
This week let’s rally behind our band and choir students as they present their winter concerts. Come out to support them, your presence celebrates the arts and encourages our talented performers!
As we approach the holiday season, remember, this is the final week to donate unopened toys to support Marauders Toy Nation. Donations will be delivered to partnering feeder schools on Friday, December 12. Take action now, bring your donations to help make a difference for families at the distribution event. In support of this effort, join us for the charity basketball game on Monday, December 8, featuring staff and Unified athletes. Students and families can gain entry by bringing a toy or making a $3 donation. Join us in cheering on the participants and working together toward our donation goal!
Let’s make this another academically focused and spirited week as we near the finish line of the first semester. Students and families are encouraged to actively monitor Behavior, Attendance, and Grades/GPA (BAG) data to finish strong.
Keep the momentum going and continue to get those WINS, Marauders!

Student Council will deliver all collected gifts to Rogers, Henry, and Mark Twain Elementary Schools on Thursday and Friday. Student toy donations also count as admission to Monday’s Staff vs. Unified Basketball Game at 2:30 p.m. In addition, fans who bring a new, unwrapped toy to Monday night’s girls basketball games vs. Pueblo South will receive free admission. Thank you for helping us support our community this holiday season!
Marauder Basketball hosting a full week of theme nights!
We kick things off with Monday’s Toy Nation game, followed by Tuesday’s boys basketball game vs. Widefield for Marauders Rally Towel Night. On Thursday, our boys take on Colorado Springs Christian for Family Night, featuring discounted gate fees for families. We wrap up the week on Friday as the girls face Pueblo East for Neon Blue and Orange Night. Come out, show your spirit, and enjoy an exciting week of Marauder basketball with the whole family!
Thespians head to the Colorado State Thespian Conference Thursday!
This major statewide event brings together over 5,000 high school theatre students at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver for three days of intensive workshops, performances, and competition. Our Marauders will train with professional theatre experts, meet representatives from colleges and universities across the country, watch top-rated high school productions, and compete with pieces they’ve been preparing since September. This conference also serves as the qualifying event for nationals this summer. It’s an exciting and important weekend for our Thespians. Wish them luck as they represent Mitchell on the statewide stage!
Marauder wrestlers open with strong performances this weekend!
Our boys’ team went head-to-head in multiple duals at the 55th annual Golden Invitational, highlighted by Damontae Simpson, who dominated the heavyweight division and won all of his matches. Osvaldo Acosta and Angel Saenz also represented the Marauders with strong efforts throughout the competition. On the girls’ side, our athletes turned in an impressive set of results at the Strasburg Invitational with Rye Wilson placing third, Jazmyn Williams fourth, and Katie Boggan fifth in their respective classes. Great work, Marauder Wrestling—way to compete!
Basketball teams open their seasons at the Lamar Thunder Throwdown.
It was a challenging start for both the boys and girls varsity teams, who went 0–3 during the tournament. Despite the rough start, our Marauders showed grit, gained valuable early-season experience, and are focused on improving as they head into a full week of home games and theme nights. Keep supporting our teams as they continue to grow and compete—Go Marauders!
