MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

CHS Community,

Despite the extended weekend, it was a productive four days here at Chardon High School! We were fortunate to have consistent good weather this week, allowing our spring sports teams to play and compete regularly. It was also wonderful to see our students and staff taking advantage of the pleasant conditions to extend learning beyond the traditional classroom setting.

A personal highlight for me was watching our boys' volleyball team's collective effort and determination as they secured a 5-set victory on Thursday.

On a different note, we bid farewell to a true front office legend today as Mrs. Kim Avery retired after many years of dedicated service. Mrs. Avery has been a calming and positive influence on everyone who had the pleasure of interacting with her. The daily stream of students stopping by to say hello and perhaps grab a piece of candy truly speaks to the impact she has had on our school community. Her presence will be deeply missed moving forward.

Finally, Chardon High School was proud to host the Geauga County Job Fair earlier today. I hope many of our students were able to make valuable connections for both seasonal and long-term employment opportunities. It was encouraging to see the gym bustling with activity throughout the event, and I thoroughly enjoyed observing our students engaging professionally with potential employers.

The Chardon Board of Education recently recognized Chardon High School Junior Rosemarie McDonald for her outstanding academic performance in earning a perfect 36 on her recent ACT exam.

Earning a perfect ACT score is an incredibly rare achievement, placing McDonald among the top test-takers nationwide.

“When I saw my score, I didn’t believe it,” she said. “I was on FaceTime with my friend, and I asked her if there were example scores, because I didn’t think it could possibly be real.”

Last year McDonald earned a score of 31 on the ACT. Determined to improve, she worked through practice materials in the weeks leading up to the ACT, focusing on increasing her math skills in hopes of boosting her score.

McDonald is the only Chardon High School student to earn a perfect ACT score in the past five years.

At the board’s April meeting, President Karen Blankenship presented McDonald with an honorary certificate, recognizing her “exceptional effort, relentless dedication and outstanding academic excellence in earning a perfect score of 36 on her ACT exam, an extraordinary accomplishment that reflects her hard work and passion for learning.”

Along with academic achievement, McDonald is highly active in her school community, taking part in several extracurricular activities including National Honor Society, soccer and basketball.

Please join us in congratulating Rosemarie for this significant achievement!

ACT REPORTS/TESTING UPDATES

ACT student reports have been sent home with students through their US History (10th grade) and Government (11th grade) social studies classes. Scores can also be accessed through the My ACT account that students set up prior to testing. If your student does not have a social studies class at CHS, they can pick up the report in the counseling office.

For current 11th grade students who want to increase their ACT score, it is highly recommended that they sign-up to take another ACT on one of the National Test Dates this spring, summer and/or early fall. HERE is the ACT website where students can register to take another ACT.

The ACT has made major changes to its test beginning this month including the option to test online on Saturday (National) test dates, reducing the number of questions per section, and making the science subtest optional, to name a few. HERE is an article with all the details.
