Decatur community,
It is a short week this week, that traditional two-day school week that comes along every year right before Thanksgiving. It gives me a brief moment to reflect on how thankful I am to be a part of this great community.
Thankful that I was hired by Dr. Applegate and the school board.
Thankful that the board has been so supportive.
Thankful that my family was onboard with moving 6 hours across the state.
Thankful for a hardworking staff that has made me feel welcome.
Thankful for a group of kids that I learn more and more about every day, a group that makes us proud.
Thankful for a town that has been generous and welcoming.
Thankful for an opportunity to do something that I have always wanted to do.
Thankful for all of the positive people around me.
I could go on and on, probably could even make one of those desk calendars with one thankful comment for each day, but, for now, we will go with the very short week, very short message theme.
SHOUTOUTS
Shoutout to all those students that have brought in cans for the annual food drive. Tomorrow, Monday, the 21st is the last day to bring items.
Shoutout to the JH basketball teams that had success last week vs Logan-Palco and Rexford. The A teams both went 2-0 on the week, including a dramatic girls win with a last second shot by Lauren May.
Logan-Palco Results
A Team Girls - 38-20
A Team Boys - 49-17
Rexford Results
Girls A Team - 17-16
Girls B Team 1-20
Girls C Team - 2-6
Boys A Team - 33-11
Boys B Team - 24-4
Shoutout to some coaches chomping at the bit to get started and some athletes putting in the time. HS winter sports' practices began this week, and Coach Gehring and Coach Weese were both ready. You can sense the anticipation that each has, and I look forward to watching the teams play. They had a shootaround this past Thursday morning, and a large portion of the students were in the gym putting in the extra time.
Shoutout to science teacher Mark Bricker. Mr. Bricker had a station at the OES Star Night this past Friday. Mr. Bricker does a great job in his high school classroom, and it is great that he had the opportunity work with the young students. A few staff were discussing current and former students that want to go into education this past week. There were two different students that were mentioned as "wanting to be a Mr. Bricker," students that want to become science teachers because of their experience in his class. Flattering to say the least.

GO BIG RED
The homestretch of the first semester is just around the corner. It's hard to believe that when we come back next week, we will experience the first days of December.
Enjoy the upcoming extended weekend with family and friends. Take time to reflect on all the people and things that you are thankful for. Rest. Get ready to finish strong .
Have a happy Thanksgiving!
