Mustang Update

Prom is right around the corner and the juniors and seniors are looking forward to a fun and exciting night! The junior class and their sponsors, Mrs. Sammie Parker and Mrs. Liz Miller have been getting everything in order to transform the gym and commons into an “Enchanted Forest”! The Red Carpet event is scheduled to start at 6:30 pm. The public is invited to attend this event to see our students and their dates in their prom attire. The dinner for students, dates and staff is scheduled to start at 7:00 pm and the dance will follow from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm. The after-prom party runs from 12:00 am to 4:00 am with the doors closing promptly at 12:00 am! All events are here at the high school with the exception of the after-prom party which is at Waterville Elementary.

The seniors are counting down the days until the end of the school! As of today (4/16) they have 17 full days of classes left. The school year has gone by quickly and these last few weeks fly by even faster. The class has a full slate of activities from now until May 14th which will keep them very busy. Commencement Exercises for the Class of 2025 is scheduled for May 17th at 2:00 pm.

Our National Honor Society, under the direction of Mrs. Brandy Turner, hosted their annual banquet on April 16th. The banquet serves two purposes, one of which is to send our senior members off in style! The second purpose to welcome into membership our newest members of NHS! This year we will induct ten students into this organization. We would like to congratulate all our NHS members on another successful year.

Each year, the Twin Valley League awards the All-Academic medal and certificate to juniors and seniors who qualify for this award. The requirements are to first have a cumulative GPA that the TVL recognizes as outstanding and then to participate in three activities that are sponsored by the Kansas State High School Activities Association. This would include all of our athletic programs but also Vocal and Instrumental Music, Scholars’ Bowl, KAYS, etc. This year we had 22 Mustangs qualify for this award which is outstanding!

Each month our Valley Heights students assist with the Harvesters program that distributes food to our community members. Jayne Whitson is in charge of this event but our organizations and programs sign up to help with the event – even during the summer months! For example, this past week members of our softball team and Coach Berger were on the schedule to help. We appreciate the opportunity to give back to our communities to thank them for all of their support!

Parents - As an incentive for students to do their very best on the State Assessments we are rewarding them with a 1/2 Day off from school if they meet or improve upon certain standards! Since we do not have results back yet on this year's tests these days are for the following school year! If you have any questions about this please contact our office and we can share with you the criteria!

We have a short week this week and next week so I am cutting my letter short! We do not have school on Friday for the Easter holiday and again on Monday due to Professional Development.

Have a great week and Let’s go Mustangs!

Valley Heights golf traveled to Onaga yesterday for the Frankfort Invitational Tournament. Brady DeWalt finished 3rd place and Royce Ekstrum finished 12th. Henry Bachura, Kadence Pierson, and Lili Slifer all got to experience their first 18 Hole Varsity Tournament. We are proud of all our golfers!

Join us Tuesday, April 29 for our annual Forensics Night! Get a taste of the work students have been putting in all season before they compete at state.

Records Broken Records Broken

Three school records were broken at Onaga. First, Langston Gray broke his own records in the 800M (2:12.64) and 1600M (5:03.20) and the Medley relay set a new record with a time of 1:48.33. Relay members are Anderson, Miller, Nemechek and Gray. The old record was 1:50.28.

A SAFE PLACE.

A SAFE PLACE. Cel Weyer is a senior at Valley Heights High School she is the daughter of Bruce Weyer. Cel’s hometown is Blue Rapids, Kansas, and she was born September 3, 2006. Her biggest influence in her life is her dad, he taught her how to be strong and independent. Cel loves tavern and jazz music, and her typical Friday night is spent playing Dungeons and Dragons or making crafts. Another few of her favorite things are baked goods, she loves a good sweet treat, along with ramen noodles, and different types of breads.

Some advice Cel would give to any underclassmen would be, “If you get stressed, step back and take a moment. Also speak up and make your voice heard no matter what!” She wants people to remember that she felt like a safe place for all. Cel has been involved in several clubs throughout her time at Valley Heights these include: Vocal three years; Art Club two years; All School Play, STUCO, and Scholars Bowl one year.

Cel has many aspirations and goals. She wants to become good at sewing and one day maybe work in a bakery. She is still unsure what she wants to do after high school but currently she is planning on entering the work force.
