MTSS Lead Weekly Updates
Week of January 5, 2026
Winter Universal Screening Window Continues
The Winter Universal Screening Window is open December 15-January 23.
Students in grades K-6 should complete the following:
- iReady Reading Diagnostic
- iReady Math Diagnostic
- iReady Literacy Tasks for grade level
- written expression (remember to enter scores in PowerApps-link found under quick links on On Target for Success homepage)
- screening for characteristics of dyslexia as outlined (Decision Making Crosswalk)
All students in grades 7-8 should complete the iReady Diagnostic for ELA and Math. Those enrolled in a 9-12 intervention course should complete the iReady Diagnostic for ELA or Math as aligned to the enrolled course. This ensures an updated personalized instruction path and allows schools to check progress towards typical and stretch growth.
Reference the 12/8/25 Lead Updates regarding the Technology Check if you have not yet prepared. The lockdown browser must be opened first and then iReady.
Reference the 12/15/25 Lead Updates regarding hiding the iReady Diagnostic if students say they do not have a Diagnostic available. If the iReady Diagnostic was previously hidden, it has to be unhidden in order for it to be available to the student.
TDOE Guidance for ILPDs
TDOE has returned to the active consent guidance (parents either accept or decline to initiate the ILPD) moving forward.
Please ensure that DYS03 coding is entered into PowerSchool for eligible students after using the Characteristics of Dyslexia Decision Making Crosswalk following screening which will aide MSCS in calculating need for dyslexia specific intervention training materials https://www.tn.gov/content/dam/tn/education/special-education/dys/URS_Decision_Making_Crosswalks_July_2025.pdf
If opt-out (passive consent) guidance was used October 2025-December 2025 there is no impact to the ILPD (NO ACTION NEEDED AT THIS TIME).
The opt-out guidance option remains under review and will not yet be available for implementation. TDOE will continue to provide updates and notify stakeholders if passive consent is determined to be an allowable option in the future.
Reading Horizons Lessons Underway
Students with active ILPDs should be rostered to either Reading Horizons Discovery (K-3) or Reading Horizons Elevate (4-12). If you notice that a student is rostered to both programs, please email RTI2@scsk12.org with the following information- student name, id number, which program they should have.
Rostered students should have completed the phonics screener or diagnostic/Reading Inventory prior to the Winter Break. Schools where students have not yet taken these will be contacted individually. Lessons should be underway following the completion of these.
If support is needed for rostering, please contact RTI2@scsk12.org. If support is needed from Shatamara Davis, please request support using the link below under the Support Needed Pathways section.
Shout Out to Barret's Chapel K-8
Shout out to Barret's Chapel K-8 for ensuring that dyslexia specific intervention occurred as scheduled even during the final week prior to Winter Break. Susan Reyna shares an intervention space with Angel Erickson and both had small groups of students who were able to focus on the lesson and their intervention provider. Check out these pictures.
Susan provides dyslexia specific intervention to two 1st graders who are rating comfort at end of lesson..

iReady Literacy Profile
This is a reminder that each student K-8 has an iReady Literacy Profile once they complete the iReady Diagnostic. This is not new, but a reminder that the information is available and can support teachers when speaking to parents. To learn more about this feature within the iReady platform you can click the button below.
7 Mindsets
Please remember to visit 7mindsets.com/Memphis-Shelby for updates, resources, and guidance as we prepare for the official 7 Mindsets districtwide launch beginning January 5th. This platform will serve as our main hub, and your early engagement will help set the tone for a smooth and successful rollout.
Support Needed Pathways
RTI2@scsk12.org
Please ensure that you are using the RTI2A Helpdesk to request support by emailing RTI2@scsk12.org. MTSS Leads should not contact people individually hoping to receive a more prompt response by sending the same email to individual people. In fact this creates duplicative requests and can ultimately create a delayed response. Currently the RTI2A Advisors along with me monitor the inbox daily.
RTI2B Questions
You can email mscsstudentsupport@scsk12.org for questions related to RTI2B.
