NEW INFORMATION FOR OUR COMMUNITY
SOCIAL MEDIA TIP: SATURN APP PRIVACY CONCERNS
We have recently been made aware of the privacy concerns regarding the popular high school scheduling app, Saturn. While SMUSD has blocked the app from our content filter, we realize students may be able to access it outside of school on their personal device. Privacy concerns of the app include visible student information and possible non-students ability to obtain an account, which have recently surfaced and we wanted to make you aware.
Parental notification organization, Bark, provided a review of the Saturn app here.
We encourage you to do your own research on the app, and as always speak with your student about their safe and responsible social media and smart device usage.

RED RIBBON WEEK 2023 @ MHHS - BE KIND TO YOUR MIND
The Red Ribbon Campaign is the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation, reaching millions of young people during Red Ribbon Week. The National Family Partnership organized the first Nationwide Red Ribbon Campaign in response to the murder of Drug Enforcement Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena. Camarena was tortured and killed in Mexico in 1985. After his murder, angered parents and youth in communities across the country began wearing Red Ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the killing and destruction caused by drugs in America.
This year’s Red Ribbon Week theme is Be Kind To Your Mind. Live Drug-Free.
The theme is a call to action to speak out in support of healthy choices. It also serves as a reminder that we are all empowered with shaping the communities around us through positivity, bravery, and strength.

INFORMATION WORTH REPEATING
SHERIFF'S OFFICE TIPS: Talk to your students about situational awareness
With the new school year under way and many students walking or biking to school, and with Halloween around the corner, we wanted to remind you of the importance of situational awareness with some tips from our partners at the Sheriff's Office:
- Always be alert to your surroundings and the people around you.
- Do not be distracted by smartphones or electronic devices.
- Go with a group; avoid walking or biking alone.
- Don’t respond to conversation from strangers on the street; keep walking.
Keep these tips in mind in October, and all year long! Let’s stay safe, San Marcos!
