From the Principal
Dear Austin Families,
I’m asking for your help with two important safety and responsibility concerns on our campus.
First, car rider line safety.
We had a minor collision in the line last week. While accidents do happen, it was a good reminder for all of us to slow down and stay focused during arrival.
If you choose to park and walk your child to the building, please walk them all the way to the front porch. I know this may not always be convenient, but children are small, difficult to see, and move quickly. For everyone’s safety, please also follow staff directions and remain patient, even when mornings feel rushed. Our students’ safety must come first.
Second, cafeteria behavior.
There is currently a social media trend where students drop milk containers and stomp on them, creating a significant mess. While this may seem funny to children, it creates unnecessary work for our custodial team and disrupts the cafeteria environment.
Students who engage in this behavior will be required to clean up the mess (when appropriate) and will receive consequences. We would greatly appreciate you taking a moment to talk with your child about showing respect for our school, their peers, and our staff.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us keep Austin Elementary safe, respectful, and focused on learning.
Thanks so much,
Katie Meaux
STAAR Testing Reminder – Grades 3 & 4 (Math)
Next week, our 3rd and 4th grade students will be taking the Math STAAR:
- Tuesday, April 28 – 3rd Grade Math
- Wednesday, April 29 – 4th Grade Math
To ensure a calm and secure testing environment, our campus will be closed to visitors, including lunch visits, from Tuesday, April 28 through Thursday, April 30. We appreciate your understanding as we prioritize a quiet and focused setting for our students.
How you can help your child be successful:
- Make sure they get a good night’s sleep
- Have them eat a healthy breakfast (at home or at school)
- Encourage them to take their time and do their best
- Send them with a positive, calm mindset—a little encouragement goes a long way!
We are proud of how hard our students have worked and know they are ready. Thank you for your continued support!
