Peace and blessings to you all!
This week’s Gospel reading from Luke 16:19–31 offers us a powerful reminder about compassion, humility, and awareness of those in need. The story of the rich man and Lazarus challenges us to reflect on how we respond to others; especially those who are suffering or less fortunate. At St. Mary’s, we are called to live out our faith not just through words, but through our actions. Whether it’s offering a helping hand, including someone who feels left out, or standing up for justice, we are invited to see Christ in one another. This reading reminds us that how we treat others matters not only today, but for eternity.
It’s been a wonderfully full and energetic week here at St. Mary’s! We were blessed to host our “Meet the Staff” evening, which gave families the opportunity to connect with our amazing educators. The School Council had a productive meeting and we'd like to congratulate our new school council executive on their new positions: Denise Warawa is our new president, Connie Steinwand is our new Vice President, and Lisa Gegolick will be our new secretary. Our School Education Society members also generously organized a delicious Chili Supper Fundraiser. Thank you to our School Education Society members for your time and dedication to our school, and thank you to everyone who supported this fabulous school community event.
Our students showed their spirit and heart during the Terry Fox Run, helping to raise awareness and funds for cancer research. On the athletics front, congratulations are in order to our cross country running team on a great showing in Vermilion, and to our junior high volleyball teams, who secured victories against Lamont in league play. And, congratulations to our junior girls team who brought home second place from the Glen Avon Tournament in St. Paul! Great job ladies! We also celebrated our first school Mass of the year at St. Martin of Tours Parish on Friday, where it was a joy for many of our students to meet Father Chad. It was especially meaningful to have Father Iryney from Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Parish join Father Chad for the celebration. What a beautiful sign of unity between our two Catholic parishes. These moments of faith, teamwork, and community truly reflect the values we strive to live out every day at St. Mary’s!
This week we have school pictures on Tuesday, and of course, more cross-country running and volleyball!
Wishing you all a blessed week ahead!
With gratitude,
The STMY Administration Team
Demographic Forms
*Please get your child's CONSENT & DEMOGRAPHIC forms completed ASAP!
We appreciate your understanding in this matter!*
The “EICS Demographic Confirmation Form” for the 2025-2026 school year, is now available for you to complete and submit, for each of your children attending an Elk Island Catholic School. The form is found online in your PowerSchool Parent Portal and you may have received an email regarding updating this info.
This form is a mandatory document and is required to be updated for every student each year, as it could greatly impact you with respect to the Canada Revenue Agency information and Immigration when they request validation of your information.
Alberta Education requires that we obtain a detailed update of student demographics on an annual basis. Funding they provide for your child's education is conditional to us receiving these updates and making them part of the student's record. We would appreciate you completing and submitting this form, for each of your children, as soon as possible.
Please contact our school at 780-632-3934, if you have any questions or require assistance.
Also please let us know if there are any significant allergies that we need to be aware of in the school, especially for those students who are new to the building.
*PLEASE CHECK YOU BALANCE ON POWER SCHOOL ACCOUNTS,
AND MAKE SURE ALL FEES FROM LAST YEAR ARE PAID*
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Picture Day!
We are excited to let you know that school picture day will take place on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. All students will have their individual photos taken, these photos are a wonderful keepsake for families and are also used for school records, yearbooks, and student ID cards.
To help make picture day go smoothly, please ensure your child arrives on time and dressed appropriately for their photo. If your child is absent on picture day, a retake day will be scheduled later in the fall. We will communicate that date as soon as it is confirmed.
Thank you for your support—we look forward to capturing another great year of memories with our St. Mary’s students!
