Dear APPLES Families,
Thank you to all of our families who attended parent teacher conferences! It was wonderful to see everyone connecting with teachers and celebrating their child's growth and progress. You should all be so proud of your little learners!

Tree Unit of Study
We are excited to begin our Trees Unit this week! The children have already started noticing changes in the trees around us, and we look forward to building on their curiosity as they explore and learn more!
Please take a moment to read the storyboard below to learn about what your child will be exploring during this unit. We will also send home a copy with your child this week!
Can You Help Us Plant a Tree?
As a special way to celebrate the end of our Trees Unit, we would love to plant a tree at APPLES! This would be a wonderful opportunity for our students to apply what they've learned and watch their tree grow for years to come.
If you or someone you know works for a landscaping company, nursery, or has a connection that could help us make this happen, please reach out to your child's teacher. We would love your help bringing this idea to life!

October is AAC Awareness Month!
At APPLES, we believe every child deserves a voice! Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) includes tools such as pictures, gestures, communication boards, and speech-generating devices that help children express their thoughts, feelings, wants, and needs.
Did you know? Research shows that AAC does not prevent children from learning to talk. In fact, it can support speech and language development!
AAC gives children more ways to communicate, build friendships, participate in learning, and express themselves independently. AAC doesn't take away a child's voice—it gives them more ways to be heard!
Throughout October, our students will celebrate AAC Awareness Month through fun classroom activities that highlight the many ways we communicate!

AAC Screenings
As part of our Universal Design for Language initiative, AAC screenings began October 7 for preschoolers preparing for kindergarten. These screenings help us identify ways to support children's communication. Families may opt out by contacting their child's teacher or an administrator. Please see the attached Parent Information Packet for details.
