Halloween Costume Guidlines

Students who choose to dress up on October 23th should wear costumes that do not interfere with their ability to work in the classroom setting. The costumes should be worn over their street clothes, so students can easily change out of their costumes. Please see more information below:

The costume parade will begin during the usual Friday morning assembly. Parents are welcome to stay for the parade.

Costume Guidelines

  • If your child’s costume has a fake weapon or any other prop that must be carried in the hand of the student, please leave this part at home, as this type of prop is not allowed at school.

  • Please avoid costumes that require masks, extravagant make-up, or sprayed hair.

  • Costumes are not allowed to have dangerous objects (e.g., toy swords, toy guns, chains, skates, or spray cans).

  • Students should wear school clothes under the costume.

  • Costumes should not be too scary (so that our younger students are not frightened)

  • No weapon, blood, or gore may be part of the costumes.

  • Costumes should be of appropriate length (not too short, too tight, or see-through).

  • Costumes should not include things on the hands or face (e.g., masks) that interfere with writing or sight.

  • Students should plan to wear shoes that will be safe for outdoor recess and PE activities.

  • Costumes should be tasteful, modest, and appropriate for a school environment and follow the basic guidelines of school dress code standards.

We thank you in advance for helping your child follow the rules about costumes. We know that the children look forward to showing off their costumes safely so that no little ones are scared.

Dear Farnham Families,

Last week we wrapped up our Goal Setting Conferences, and I am still so grateful for every family who sat down with our teachers. These conversations are one of the most meaningful ways we build a strong home and school connection, and our Falcons see that the adults in their lives are on the same team.

We would love to hear from you! Please take a few minutes to share your feedback about this year’s Goal Setting Conferences. Your responses help us make these conversations even more valuable for every family. The survey is available in both English and Spanish.

👉 Goal Setting Conference Survey / Encuesta sobre las Conferencias de Metas

As your child works toward their goals, keep the conversation going at home with our Farnham 3 Personal Standards: Solve Problems, Make Good Decisions, and Show Respect. Ask your child which standard is helping them most with their goal right now!

🎃 Our Pumpkin Walk is NEXT WEEK! This is one of our favorite Farnham traditions, and we can’t wait to celebrate together on Friday, October 23rd from 4:30-8:30 pm. Please see more information below.

🦅 Join Us for Our Costume Parade! Families are invited to cheer on our Falcons at our Costume Parade on Friday, October 23, at 8:20 am on the track. Please stand inside the track to watch as our students parade around in their costumes. Bring your smiles, your cameras, and your loudest Falcon cheers! We can’t wait to share this festive morning with you.

🚸 Keeping Our Falcons Safe: With extra families joining us on campus for the Pumpkin Walk, please continue to yield to pedestrians, keep red zones and neighbor driveways clear, and use designated crosswalks. Thank you for helping every arrival and dismissal stay safe.

Thank you, as always, for your partnership. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Be well,
Amy

P.S. Don't forget to scroll to the end to see pictures of our Falcons!

CEF Volunteer Support Fund

Open the Door to More Volunteers

Volunteers make our schools stronger. They support classrooms, field trips, student activities, and school programs - and students benefit when parents and community members can be involved.

The new volunteer clearance process includes a $77 fingerprinting cost, which can be a barrier for some families.

Help Remove the Barrier

Cambrian Educational Foundation (CEF) has launched the Volunteer Support Fund with an initial $3,000 investment to help provide financial assistance for required fingerprinting.

Your donation can help multiply that impact by helping more parents and community members become cleared volunteers.

To direct your donation to this fund, visit www.cambrianef.org/giving.

Under "Please direct my support to:" select "Volunteer Support Fund" from the dropdown menu.

School Absences:

If your child will be absent or tardy, please call the automated 24 hour attendance line before the school day begins. Absences not cleared will be recorded as a truancy. Farnham's 24 hour automated attendance line is 408-377-3321 EXT 4102.

Any questions, please contact the Health/Attendance Clerk, Renee Gundersen 408-377-3321 EXT 4104. Remember to always include her in any email( gundersenr@cambriansd.com) regarding absences or tardies.

Avoid Tardies

Being on time to school is a great way to start the day (students do not like walking into class late). Please avoid tardies at all costs. Gates open at 8:05 am, and close (and lock) at 8:15 am when the instructional day begins. After 8:15 am, everyone must check in through the school office, and students will walk themselves to class.

Truancy:

A pupil is considered truant if they are absent without a valid excuse for:

  • Three full days in one school year.

  • Any combination of absences or tardiness exceeding 30 minutes on three occasions in one school year.

Upon classification as a truant, the school will notify the parent or guardian, informing them of the pupil's truancy status and their obligation to ensure the pupil's attendance.

Habitual Truancy:

If a pupil is reported as a truant three or more times in one school year, the pupil is considered a habitual truant. A School Attendance Review Team (SART) meeting will be scheduled with the parent/guardian to work on a success and remediation plan.

Chronic Absenteeism:

A pupil is deemed chronically absent if they miss 10% or more of school days in a year, regardless of whether the absences are excused or unexcused.

Students who are habitual truants or chronically absent may be referred to a School Attendance Review Board (SARB). These bodies work with the student and family to address attendance issues and may recommend community services or other interventions.
