From Hamilton To Home
April 2026
APRIL UPDATES AND REMINDERS
Parents/Families,
It is National Assistant Principals Week. I would like to acknowledge our very own Assistant Principal, Mrs. Huff! Mrs. Huff is an integral part of our Hamilton team and we eagerly await her return from maternity leave. Happy Assistant Principals Week Mrs. Huff!
It is hard to believe that we are nearing the middle of the 4th quarter as we come off of spring break. April marks the push to the end of the school year in which Ohio State Testing for 3rd and 4th Grade is completed and we near End of Year Assessments for all students.
In this edition of From Hamilton to Home, please review updates from the office, school nurse, PBIS Parent Survey, and April Happenings. Next week we will be holding a Stay in the Game Spirit Week to support student attendance. We hope to see high student attendance and participation in spirit week.
Best,
Principal Putt
ATTENTION TO ATTENDANCE
Join us as we return from spring break for Stay in the Game Spirit Week to support school attendance!
COUNSELOR CORNER
Dear Families,
As you know, we are using the Second Step program in your child’s classroom. The Second Step program teaches children important skills for getting along with others and doing well in school. It also helps our school be a safe and supportive place where everyone can learn. To help make our school even more safe and supportive, we are also going to use the SecondStep Child Protection Unit. In these lessons, students will learn three types of skills:
Personal Safety. Students will learn important safety rules, such as safety with guns, sharp tools, and fire, and when riding on wheels or in cars. They will also learn ways to help them decide if something is safe or not.
Touching Safety. Students will learn about safe, unsafe, and unwanted touches, and rules about touching private body parts. They’ll also learn to say no to unsafe or unwanted touches, and to tell an adult if someone breaks rules about touching private body parts.
Assertiveness. These lessons will also give students a chance to practice asking an adult for help, telling an adult about an unsafe situation, and being assertive to get out of unsafe situations.
If you have any questions about the Child Protection Unit or the Second Step program, please contact the school counselor. If you do not want your child(ren) to participate in these lessons, please complete this google form. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfrI7pm-qDnt2rL8iLE4JRuQynAVbijhvkGM9vmyVMZ35JkMg/viewform?usp=header.
Child Participation Opt-Out Form
Please complete the following information if you do not want your child to participate in the child protection lessons. If applicable, please fill out a new form for each child in your family that attend Hamilton.
Thank you for helping us to make our school and our community a safe and supportive place where everyone can learn.
Sincerely,
Ariana Miller

FROM THE OFFICE
Please review the following reminders regarding current district policies. These policies are in place for the safety of all students. Hamilton Elementary appreciates your support with student safety.
Student absent call-offs
Only a custodial parent/guardian can give permission to call a student off for the day.
Student early release
Only a custodial guardian/parent can give permission for a student to be released early from school.
Student release/pick-up
Students can only be released or picked up by a custodial parent/guardian unless the parent has identified another person this permission in PowerSchool. If there is a last-minute change where you need to add a pickup person, we ask that they send an email confirming this. You can always add a new contact for us in PowerSchool as well.
Visitor identification
All visitors that arrive at any building or team office to pick up a student must present a valid state ID.
CLASSROOM TREATS AND PARTIES
We have students who have allergies (some severe) that may develop a reaction, as a result of certain foods being permitted and passed out during special occasions such as birthdays, classroom parties, rewards, etc. This is something the kids love and should be able to enjoy.
However, to keep all students safe, It's imperative that all foods brought from the outside are store bought (not homemade) and have nutrition information on them to check ingredients. If the ingredients aren't available, they may not be distributed.
We have students with all kinds of allergies (peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, dairy, wheat, gluten, etc.). We also have students with medical conditions who can't eat certain foods as well.
Ideally parents should notify the school/teacher at least 24 hours prior to when they bring in treats so that the teacher can check for allergies.
Non-food treats are encouraged, such as stickers, pencils, glow sticks, bracelets and other kid-friendly items.
FOOD SERVICE UPDATE

COMMUNITY CONNECTION
HAMILTON POSITIVE BEHAVIORAL INTEVENTIONS AND SUPPORTS (PBIS)
Be sure to review the "3 B's" with your child. These are discussed each and every day.
BE RESPECTFUL
BE RESPONSIBLE
BE READY TO LEARN
At Hamilton, we believe in teaching students to be confident young people. Every morning, we start the day by reciting the Hamilton Affirmation which states:
I am SOMEBODY
I and CAPABLE and LOVEABLE
I am TEACHABLE
Therefore, I can LEARN
I will not waste TIME
Because, it is too VALUABLE
And I am too PRECIOUS and BRIGHT
I am SOMEBODY
Please practice the affirmation with your child and review what it means. I am also looking for students who can proudly recite the affirmation during the morning announcements.
