ALA Giving Tree! Support our ALA Families.
Each year ALA Elementary hosts a Giving Tree to help support those in need this holiday. This year our Giving Tree is dedicated to our students here at ALA that could use some Christmas cheer. Please consider getting an ornament from our tree to bring a smile to the face of one of our own.

ELEMENTARY INFORMATION
Message from our Elementary Principal - Mr. Anderson
Parents,
I hope you all had a seriously fantastic and much-needed Thanksgiving break! It’s been great having all our kids back in the building this week. The energy has been awesome, and they are doing a phenomenal job getting back into the swing of things. A huge thanks to our staff—you guys are the best and make everything run smoothly!
Winter is officially here, and that means we need to be on the same page about outside time. Please take a quick look at how we decide if the kids go out or stay cozy inside. Safety is always number one! We will also attach the infographic, the full procedure can found here: Cold Weather Guidelines and also the state’s recess recommendations for air quality is found here: Air Quality Recess Guidelines
When They Stay Inside (We call these "Inside Days")
The kids will stay indoors if we hit any of these points:
Temperature: If the "feels like" (wind chill) temperature is below 22∘F. If it’s 23∘F or warmer, they are heading out, assuming the rest of the weather holds up. We check www.weather.com for the temp.
Precipitation: If it's raining, snow, or other precipitation that will soak the students, they stay in.
Playground Safety: If we have ice buildup or unsafe blacktop conditions, they are inside.
Air Quality: We follow the Utah Department of Health standards. If the air quality does not meet the standards, students will remain indoors. You can check current conditions at airquality.utah.gov.
Help Them Dress Right!
Please make sure your child is prepared to handle the cold and the transitions between outside and the classroom:
Layers are key! They need layered clothing to adjust to changing temperatures, including a warm coat, a hat, and gloves.
Send the right shoes: Wet weather can make playground areas muddy. Boots or appropriate shoes help a lot.
Label everything! Please write your child’s name on their coats and jackets. It makes finding them so much easier!
We have recently observed an increase in "play fighting" among students during recess. While we understand that many students intend this as harmless play, the safety of every child on the playground is our absolute top priority, and we need your support to implement a crucial adjustment to our approach.
This activity presents a significant challenge because it is extremely difficult for our aides and teachers to reliably determine when this 'play' crosses the line into a real conflict or a situation where a child is genuinely hurt. These actions can escalate so quickly, turning fun into conflict, injury, or hurt feelings before an adult can intervene.
Effective immediately, we must be strict: Play fighting is not allowed at any time.
Please partner with us by speaking with your children about the importance of keeping hands and feet to themselves and engaging in positive, respectful interactions. Thank you for helping us maintain a consistently safe, clear, and supportive playground environment for all our young leaders!
As we head into December and the holidays, we are focusing on the "S" in our RISE UP program: Service.
I’ve seen some awesome stuff this week—kids helping custodians, picking up trash without being told, and just being great friends. That's the character we want to build!
Service is about more than just big gestures; it’s about those small, meaningful acts that build empathy and responsibility. Please encourage your child to look for ways to serve at home, in the community, and right here at school.
Together, we're not just creating great students, we're developing great people!
Wishing you and your family a safe, warm, and restful weekend and if you have any questions or I can help
Don't Miss the Economics Fair!
Economics Fair Next Week!
Just a heads up for next week: We are excited to hold our Economics Fair on Thursday, December 11th, from 9:00 a.m. to noon in our Elementary Gym.
This is always a fantastic event where our 5th grade students learn about supply, demand, and entrepreneurship by creating and running their own mini-businesses. They have worked so hard and have created some great and creative things. To make sure all our students gets a chance to participate fairly and get something, we have a couple of rules for spending:
Cash Only: Please remember that it is cash only for purchases at the fair.
Spending Limit: We are asking that each student bring only a maximum of $5.00, which is equal to twenty (20) tickets. This helps manage the flow of the fair and ensures all students get to experience buying and selling.
Thanks for helping your student prepare for this fun learning opportunity!
