MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Students and Families,
It's time to hear from our Athletic Director, Alan Boschma:
Welcome to the start of our fall sports season! We are excited to celebrate the outstanding athletes, dedicated coaches, and supportive families that make Franklin athletics special. As the Athletic Director, I am proud of the hard work, leadership, and sportsmanship our student-athletes demonstrate every day. We believe athletics showcase the talent, perseverance, and character of our students and coaches, and highlight the strong community support that helps us succeed. Your encouragement and involvement are vital in creating a positive environment for our teams to thrive. Let’s come together to support our teams and make this season memorable.
Alan Boschma, Franklin High School Athletic Director
GO LIGHTNING!
At Franklin, our students' safety and security is our top priority. We will follow district protocols for possible ICE actions by not allowing enforcement agents to enter the school and we will not disclose any student’s information or immigration status.
Below is a link to a message that was emailed out to families by our superintendent about recent national events and news about immigration enforcement.
I’d like to share another reminder about Franklin and PPS sporting events. Backpacks and large bags are not allowed at any games in the gym or the football field. We ask that students and families leave these items in their car or at home. Help us keep our events safe and secure for everyone that attends.
Thank you,
Dr. Z
SCHOOL INFORMATION
NEW: ICE Protocols from PPS
We know that recent national events and news about immigration enforcement have created real fear and uncertainty in our community. We have heard from many families who are worried about their safety, their children’s well-being, and what role the school district will play in protecting them.
We want to be clear: our schools are safe spaces for every student. Portland Public Schools is committed to providing an environment where students can learn, grow, and feel supported regardless of their immigration status.
Please read the following information, outlined in Board Resolution No. 5363, Rights of Undocumented Students and Protocols for ICE Access to Schools.
NEW: Lockdown Drill on 9/24
Please be aware that there will be a lockdown drill taking place at Franklin on Wednesday, September 24th. The purpose of this drill is to practice & learn what to do in the event of a real lockdown emergency. In an effort to make sure students and families are aware of what the drill will look like, and what students will be expected to do in case of a real emergency, teachers will share this slidedeck with all of their classes on September 22nd and 23rd.

Update on COVID-19 Testing in PPS
Starting in the 2025-2026 school year, PPS will no longer provide on-site COVID-19 symptom-based testing. Students will still be excluded if they show symptoms listed on the When to Keep My Child Home From School chart, and families can continue to access testing through at-home kits, their healthcare provider, or PPS School-Based Health Centers.
