The Underwood Way
April 2025
As we approach the final months of the school year, I want to share some important updates:
✅ ND A+ & STAR Assessments – Why They Matter
Assessments play a vital role in education by helping us understand where students are excelling and where they may need extra support. The upcoming ND A+ and STAR assessments provide valuable insight into student learning, guide our teaching strategies, and help us tailor interventions or enrichment opportunities to meet each child’s needs. Additionally, performance on the ND A+ assessments is one of the reasons we have been identified as a TSI school this year and will help determine if we remain a TSI-identified school next year. Encouraging your child to do their best is essential! Please ensure they are well-rested and ready to give their best effort.
✅ Field Trips – As we near the end of the school year, students will have exciting field trip opportunities. Please be on the lookout for permission slips and any details regarding sack lunches.
✅ Finishing the Year Strong – With just two months left, we encourage students to stay engaged, work hard, and end the year on a high note. We also look forward to celebrating their achievements at our year-end celebrations!
Thank you for your continued support in helping our students succeed!

Happy Spring!
For our Accelerated Reader program this year, I am selecting “AR Stars of the Month.” These will be either the student in each grade earning the most points for the month or a student who has made significant improvement. They will be posted in the hallway outside the Library. March’s AR Stars are: Penelope - 2nd, Madden - 3rd, Emalyn - 4th, Evelyn - 5th, and Timothy - 6th. Way to read!
A reminder also of our 100 AR Points Field Trip that place on May 9th - students will have until the end of April or shortly after to make it to 100 points. The field trip will be to the YMCA and lunch in Minot. We currently have 6 students who’ve earned it!
The books and participation prizes from our Book Blast event were delivered right before spring break, and every student received at least two books! It was fun to do the countdown with each class and watch their excitement about the new books they got to keep! Thank you to all who participated!
Book Fair was held March 11th - March 28th. It is still available online at https://www.scholastic.com/bf/ups until April 11th. Thank you everyone who visited the Fair this year! Funds raised will go towards new books for the Library!
During March, our Elementary Library classes watched book trailers, made wishlists, and shopped the Book Fair. For April, grades PreK-1 will be celebrating the Book Battle winner “Elephant & Piggie” books, reading a couple spring/Easter-themed books with crafts, and enjoying a little outside storytime (hopefully). Grades 2-6 will be doing some webquest research and enjoying a little outside time, as well.
The Bookmobile will be here on Tuesday, April 8th. Please help remind students to return Bookmobile items if they haven’t already. Thank you!
