From Dr. Martin.... From Dr. Martin....

Hello LISD Families.

This is conference week and we are so excited to see you! Last spring, we began implementing the practice of student-led conferences for kindergarten through 8th graders. This year, we are continuing to deepen this practice, adding 9th grade. In elementary school, depending on the age and developmental level of the child, students will share some work they are proud of and highlights of the school year so far. Secondary students will share Canvas pages from each of their classes and how the year is going so far in terms of academic progress and habits of work and learning.

The primary purpose of a student-led conference (SLC) is student agency. SLCs give students an opportunity to develop ownership, accountability, self-reflection, and communication skills. SLCs from a young age also prepare students for prepare for presentations later on, like the We understand that parents/guardians want to hear about their child's academic and social-emotional progress in school from classroom teachers. We want you to get all the information you need, while still helping our students become leaders of their own learning. This is a new practice for both students and adults, so we very much appreciate your participation, and support while we keep working towards this balance.

Thank you for scheduling a conference and partnering with us!

All my best,

Martha
