A Message from Emily Vuoso A Message from Emily Vuoso

zoom_out_map

The month of September is coming to a close and I will see some of you this week during Leadership Development Week where we will review the iReady Beginning of the Year data and discuss best next steps to move students. For those who are not joining LDW this week, please know that the information will be made available to MTSS Leads the week of September 30th.

You've asked for more support time from me. While I cannot be at every school, I can definitely maximize my minutes of support by pulling groups of MTSS Leads together. Beginning the week of September 30th, I will begin offering support to you with Office Hours each week. You will have the ability to submit in advance your questions, select topics that will allow me to group you via Teams where we will be able to address your questions on selected topics.

We continue working with PCG TNPulse and MSCS IT to ensure that all students and teachers populate correctly within TNPulse. A week ago we had almost 1,000 students with State Id errors. This involves multiple people to correct depending upon the source of the error. Thank you for your continued patience as we work through these errors.

Thank you for all of YOUR leadership and work that you are doing in your schools each day as we work TOGETHER to remain On Target for Success!

ILP-D Plans in TNPulse ILP-D Plans in TNPulse

Additional TDOE Guideance

ILP-D Renewal and ILP-D Exit require two separate action paths in TNPulse. You do not need to add the most recent screener data to an existing ILP-D if you will be exiting the ILP-D as this will require you to create a new record of decision. It is only necessary to work from the exit tile.

You will use the most recent URS as your basis for renewal/exit decisions when it comes to annual review. Regardless of meeting exit criteria, when a student plan is up for renewal, the student must "requalify" to be renewed for another calendar year. If the student does, and the team agrees the plan is necessary and appropriate, a new plan can be written for another year. If the student meet criteria, and the team agrees the plan is not necessary or appropriate because of student growth or no longer requiring a dyslexia-specific intervention, the ILP-D can be exited. If the student does not meet criteria for another year, regardless of intervention needs, the student's ILP-D will be exited. This does not mean the student must or should be exited from intervention; it just means they will be served through a student intervention plan that is not an ILP-D. Keep in mind, an ILP-D is just one type of student intervention plan, but it is not the only way students with characteristics of dyslexia can be served.

Below is some guidance for navigating this in PULSE.

When plan is expiring:

  1. Analyze URS data and confirm student meets ILP-D criteria in rule to be eligible for a new annual plan
    1. If student meets criteria, is eligible for another year of funding through an ILP-D service plan, and the data team determines the plan is appropriate, enter a new record of decision and create a parent notification marking that the parent will sign the document in person. Parental consent is not required for a renewal, and this will allow you to then mark the date for parent consent and proceed with creating a new plan. Edit the workspace and finalize with new dates.
    2. If the student does not meet ILP-D criteria, even if the student still requires dyslexia-specific intervention, the student will need to be exited and served through a student intervention plan. In order to be eligible for another annual plan, the student must qualify according to rule based on defined criteria. Team can select reason from exit and/or select "Other" and input that the student did not qualify for another annual plan and the current plan was expiring.

Changes to TN PULSE will allow selection of "Initial" or "Renewal" to bypass having to create a new parent notification. Exit criteria is also being updated to include students not qualifying for a second annual plan. I do not have a definitive release date for these updates, but we will keep district posted.

What should I select for parent notification if there is a renewal?

1. Click "The parent will sign a paper copy."

2. Per TDOE because this is an existing plan that will be renewed, you do not need to send the paper copy home, because the parent has already granted permission. You can automatically select "I agree to an ILP-D for my child to support reading development." You will want to communicate to the parent that the ILP-D will be renewed based on the eligibility criteria and let them know they will continue to receive progress updates.

What do I do if I don't see an exit tile, but have a finalized ILP-D?

Taken from RTI2A and Characteristics of Dyslexia Office Hours 9/17/24:

Many districts have reported that for some students, despite a finalized ILP-D, the exit criteria tile is not appearing and/or there is no green D icon on the student’s search results page indicating a current, active plan.

Changes implemented to the system in January may have produced a glitch depending on when and how parent notification and response was indicated within the system in relation to when the ILP-D was finalized. Completing the following steps should resolve this issue and result in the appearance of both the exit criteria tile and the green D icon:

  1. Create a backdated Record of Decision in tile 1 that matches the date of the original parent notification.
  2. Follow prompts to create parent notification and choose they will sign a paper copy. (You do not need to really send this for a new signature.)
  3. Confirm parent consent for when parent returned original consent form (must be sometime between generation and the date of the finalized ILP-D). Ensure that there is at least one day between the confirmation of parent response and the finalization of the ILP-D (i.e., confirmation of parent response must be at least one calendar day prior to the finalized ILP-D date).
  4. Click through all tiles using the green save and continue button in the top right corner until you return to the main tile page.
  5. Confirm if the exit criteria tile has appeared. It will be the last tile on the screen after quarterly progress monitoring.

If these actions do not resolve the absence of the green D icon or the absence of the exit criteria tile from finalized ILP-D profiles, please submit a ZenDesk ticket for more support.

How can I see who in my school has an ILP-D and what the status is?

Currently there is not a report for tracking ILP-Ds that is available to schools or the District. We can track information manually such as on the CSRS and/or use the Advanced Search feature in TNPulse by selecting who is ILP-D eligible and who has an ILP-D.

What should I do if I do not see students in MTSS?

There have been several reports of not seeing students in MTSS that have been reported to the RTI2@scsk12.org HelpDesk but also shared on the TNPulse Open Office Hours as well as the TDOE RTI2 and CoD Office Hours. PCG TNPulse and TDOE have encouraged "patience" when clicking. TNPulse has a lot of data that needs to load. For example, I have noticed up to 60 seconds before I can see what I originally sought to see. Note: This is not the same if you do not see the student when searching by number. This should be checked against PowerSchool and making sure that they have a State Id Number. If you see all of this but are unable to locate the student, please submit a HelpDesk request that includes the student name, id number, and details of where the student cannot be found.

Logging into TNPulse

From Clever select the PCG tile (formerly known as EdPlan), be sure that you are clicking on the appropriate link for TNPulse based on your permissions. TDOE SSO is required if you manage ILP-Ds. General MTSS access can be gained from using the MSCS credentials at the bottom of the sign in screen.

AdHoc Groups

If you are not able to modify existing plans, it may be caused by AdHoc Groups. If you are unable to modify existing plans, please end the plan and create a new plan for the student before assigning them to a group.

Do I create an ROI or use the Literacy Cut Scores to determine progress?

MSCS has historically used the Literacy Cut Scores to determine progress for students. However, you are able to use the ROI Goal Setting if you would like. Keep in mind that this will likely create a much more "aggressive ROI" for students based on dates entered, especially if the student is below the 25th percentile. The Literacy Cut Scores are linked below for reference.

What should I do if I see students rostered in aimswebPlus that no longer attend my school?

If the student has been withdrawn, or has transferred to another school, for more than 48 hours the student should not appear rostered any longer. However, if they do still appear, you will want to check with the attendance admin at your school to ensure the student has been fully removed from PowerSchool. If the student has been removed from PowerSchool, please screenshot and share the student name and id number with the RTI2@scsk12.org HelpDesk.
