November Food Drive - UPDATE
We started the food drive this week and collected 170 items to donate to HOPE. And, this week we are being challenged by two 5th graders to see if we can have over 200 items to donate.
If your family is able to contribute, HERE is a list of foods HOPE that are of highest need. Students can bring in their food and leave it in the round container in the main entryway. Thank you for helping our community and talking with your children about how we all need a little help sometimes and how to help neighbors.
Check out the Lost and Found
There is a TON of lost and found items in the main lobby in our Lost and Found. We also have a LOT of water bottles. When you are at Mary Hogan next, please come check out what we have in the Lost and Found. All items remaining after next week will be donated to Junebug and HOPE.
Look How Busy We Have Been!
Checking Water Quality in Barnes Brook
5th graders worked with Addison County River Watch last week to test the water quality in Barnes Brook.
We are collaborating with River Watch and the Town of Middlebury to help improve water quality and plant native shrubs to this area right behind school. It is service and inquiry based learning at its best!
SNOW!
We welcomed the snow at recess this week. Student build snow forts, huge snow balls, snow cats, and slid around. Now you may note that there wasn't that much snow out there. It didn't matter. Hawks loved it no matter what. Fingers crossed for more snow soon!
Climbing Wall
Students in 4th grade continued their November Climbing unit in PE this week when they explored the elements in the South Gym. They did so well challenging themselves. Many students made it up the elements and some even tried them with a blindfold on! What risk-takers they have been.
Reading and Fine Motor Skills
Kindergarteners this week read a book called Lei Harvest. After reading the book, they had a chance to make their own leis by stringing paper flowers on a cord. The physical action of making the lei helped everyone build their fine motor skills and allowed students to imagine how challenging it would be to get real flowers on the lei without being damaged.
Geography Terms
Do you know what the difference is between a bay and the mouth of a river? Do you know what an isthmus is? 2nd graders do! They have been exploring different geography terms and features. This week they worked to build models of a landscape of their design that incorporated the features they are learning about.
