π© Other Important Importation
π¨The first FULL day is on Tuesday, Sept. 8th
Hooray, hooray! We get to go to school on Tuesday!
Our Warren Kindergarten team is so excited to finally have students in our classrooms, and officially launch the 26-27 school year. Please know that on Tuesday, when your student comes into the school, and we have staff readily available to guide them to the appropriate classroom. We recognize this is a huge transition for some of our Kindergarteners, yet we will not be allowing parents to go into their child's class or down the hallway for safety reasons. If you choose to take a "first day picture", it will need to be outside of the building.
π‘Tip: to minimize first day of school tears, watch the book on YouTube, down below, about the first day of Kindergarten.
πArrival/Drop-Off
When dropping your student off, it is most helpful that your student is on the passenger side of the vehicle, in the back of the car. This way, our staff can easily assist with helping your child out of the car. Look for our staff wearing their safety vests for assistance. Please note: there is very limited parking on campus.
Upper lot: Ms. Kosmowski, Mrs. May, Mrs. V
Lower lot: Mrs. C, Miss Lines, Miss King
π‘ Tip: visit the school campus on Monday in your vehicle to practice for arrival and you can take your first day picture with the Warren sign showing!
πΈ Look for our staff wearing their safety vests during arrival/drop-off!
Staff in safety vests can assist you & your child to help keep it safe!
Classroom teachers newsletters will be here in future weeks!

π Principal's Corner
Meet Principal Megan!
Dear Warren Elementary Families,
π As the new Principal of Warren Elementary and new to the Scappoose School District, here are a few things about me:
I'm entering my 14th year as a leader of a school.
My favorite things are reading, being outdoors, live music concerts, hiking, paddle boarding, camping, and traveling to see my family members who live in all 4 corners of the United States (California, Florida, New Jersey/New York, Washington & Oregon).
I lived in Queretaro, Mexico for a period of time in my 20s, and have a deep appreciation for domestic and global cultural experiences.
Social and emotional health and well being has become a true passion for me in my career and personal life.
I love how we are an all Preschool & Kindergarten school at Warren, and I am here to partner with you for your child's success as they develop their identity as a life long learner!
I look forward to learning more about our school community, and please know that I am here for any questions that may arise. I am learning right alongside you to start the year!
With Gratitude,
Principal Megan Shea

Star Assessments: What Families Should Know
Helping Every Student Grow in Reading and Mathematics
This school year, K-8 students will take the Star test in fall, winter, and spring. The test helps teachers understand each student's strengths and learning needs so they can provide the right instruction and support throughout the year.
Fall Interim Assessment Window
Kindergarten: 9/21/26-10/2/26
Grades 1-8: 9/8/26-10/2/26
What is Star?
The Star is an online reading and mathematics assessment that adapts to each student.
When students answer correctly, questions become more challenging.
When students miss questions, the assessment adjusts to find the level where they are ready to learn next.
Because every student receives different questions, the assessment provides a more accurate picture of what they know and what they are ready to learn.
What does it measure?
Reading
Fluency
Phonemic Awareness
Phonics
Key Ideas and Details
Text Complexity
Vocabulary
Craft and Structure
Knowledge and Ideas
Math
Counting & Cardinality
Algebraic Thinking
Geometry
Expressions & Equations
Numbers & Operations
Functions
Ratios
Number System
Stats & Probability
How will the results be used?
Teachers use Star results to:
Plan instruction that meets students' individual needs
Identify students who may benefit from additional support or enrichment
Monitor student growth from fall to spring
Celebrate student progress over time
The assessment is not graded and is not used as a report card grade. It is one of several tools teachers use to understand student learning.
How can you help?
You can help your child by encouraging them to:
Get a good night's sleep before testing.
Eat a healthy breakfast.
Arrive at school on time.
Take their time and do their best.
Work independently without help so teachers receive the most accurate information about what they know.
The goal isn't to get every answer correctβit's to understand what your child is ready to learn next.
What youβll learn
Following each testing window, you'll receive a Star Family Report that explains your child's results in easy-to-understand language. It shows how your child is progressing over time and identifies skills they have mastered and skills they're ready to learn next.
