October 10, 2025 - NEWS RELEASE

Jaime Cabral has been named the 2026 Alaska Assistant Principal of the Year by the Alaska Association of Secondary School Principals (AASSP). He is also recognized as the 2025 Alaska Region V Assistant Principal of the Year.

The AASSP Assistant Principal of the Year program annually recognizes outstanding middle level and high school assistant principals who have successfully provided high-quality learning opportunities for students. In addition, these assistant principals are acknowledged by their peers for the exemplary contributions they have made to the profession.

Assistant Principal Cabral received his Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education from Western Oregon University. He completed his Master's Degree in Educational Leadership at Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

Assistant Principal Cabral has served in the Petersburg School District since 2011. In addition to his role as assistant principal, he also serves as the Dean of Student Development, Athletic Director and Title VI Indian Education Grant Coordinator for the Petersburg School District.

AASSP President David Nogg said, "Jaime brings passion and energy to his role as assistant principal for Petersburg High School and Mitkof Middle School, which directly and positively affects the climate of both his schools." He added, "Thanks to his leadership and encouragement, kids feel a sense of belonging there.

Robyn Taylor, Superintendent of the Petersburg School District said Principal Cabral has made a positive impact on the school community. "He makes every person he works with feel as if they are the most important person in the room." She added, "Jaime is instrumental in helping to guide our teachers in their professional growth."

Superintendent Taylor said, "The Petersburg School District celebrates with Mr. Cabral. He is very deserving of this recognition."

Jaime Cabral was recognized as the 2026 Alaska Assistant Principal of the Year during the 59th Annual Alaska Principals’ Conference in Anchorage.

Congratulations to Mrs. Corrao

2025 Yale Educator Award

New Haven, Conn. -Mrs. Chelsea Corrao of Petersburg High School has been recognized by the Yale Office of Undergraduate Admissions as a recipient of the 2025 Yale Educator Award.

The Yale Educator Recognition Program recognizes outstanding educators from around the world who support and inspire their students to perform at high levels and to achieve excellence. Of this year's 302 nominees, who represent 38 states and 22 countries, 61 teachers and 26 counselors were selected to receive the award. Matriculating students were invited to nominate high school educators, and a committee of Yale admissions officers reviewed each nomination individually and selected recipients.

The Yale Admissions Office attributes the exceptional quality of the Yale student body to educators like these recipients of the 2025 Yale Educator Award, who shape their students long before they attend Yale. The Admissions Office is proud to thank these and all educators for their ongoing efforts in motivating and supporting their students.
