Welcome Back!
Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year. It is my privilege to serve as the principal of the Woburn Street School. I hope that you had an amazing summer and that many memories were made! We look forward to welcoming all students back on August 30th.
This year, we will continue to monitor student data as we did last year in Literacy, Math, & Social Emotional areas. Our assessment process and data cycles will continue throughout the year which help ensure your child is on a path that will give them the skills necessary for a successful future. Several classrooms will be piloting new reading programs with the intention of selecting one and purchasing it for the 2024-2025 school year.
At Woburn Street, we foster a safe, caring and nurturing school culture while supporting the academic, social, and emotional development of each student. Our Core Values at the Woburn Street School are Act Responsibly, Show Respect, Be Kind, and Be Your Best Self. Each day, and in all areas of the school, our staff and students strive to model these traits. Expected behaviors are recognized and at times rewarded with a PAW ticket where on Fridays we choose several lucky tickets that win a prize. Unexpected behaviors are seen as opportunities to learn about good choices and self-regulation. Through the use of common language and consistent expectations, along with lessons and activities, we will continue to build a positive school community and will address each individual student’s social emotional needs.
I wanted to remind families that all parents/guardians need to go onto their Aspen accounts and verify contact information for each student registered at WSS. Please ensure that each student has at least two people listed as contacts with up-to-date phone numbers. This is vital in the event we need to contact families in case of an emergency. Please also sign up for ClassDojo if you have not already done so. This is a hub of communication for WSS.
I am eager to see your children at school this year and to watch them grow in many ways. Please feel free to reach out to me with questions, commendations, or concerns at any time. I look forward to partnering with you to help your child have a safe and successful school year!
Sincerely,
Stacey M. Scott M.Ed
Principal

School Walk Through
It has been a tradition that the evening before school starts we allow families to walk through
to see their child's classroom. This will take place on August 29th between 4:00-5:00pm
This allows students to find the classroom and their desk. You may also bring along classroom
supplies at the time and leave them by your child's desk. Please note that teachers have been working many days to get the classrooms ready and they are not required to be there.
They will be ready to meet your child or the first day of school whether they are a bus or a car rider.
First Day
Your child’s timely arrival at school is important so that instructional activities can begin promptly. Due to the volume of parents who accompany students to school the first day, parking will be difficult. Please consider walking with your children, Parents & caregivers will not be allowed to enter the building.
Bus routes
will be posted on the district website at least a week prior to school starting, families will receive an email with a link to view the routes on the district website and they will also be available in the Town Crier.
EMERGENCY CARDS
A reminder that all families need to go into their Aspen accounts and verify contact information for each student. Please ensure that each student has at least two people listed as contacts with up-to-date phone numbers. This is vital in case we need to contact families in case of an emergency.
Open House
This will be a time to learn about your child's teacher and grade level curriculum. Please remember this is not a time to discuss your individual student. Please set up a meeting with the teacher if you would like to discuss your child's specific needs.

Nurse Update
Current COVID Guidelines:
For individuals who test positive with a rapid antigen test:
Day 0 is the day individuals first become symptomatic
Days 1-5 individuals must remain at home in isolation
Days 6-10 individuals may leave isolation but must wear a mask (after Day 5 individuals can test, if negative 2 days (at least 24 hours apart), a mask is not necessary)
There is no quarantine required for individuals exposed to a positive person. All individuals are requested to test if symptomatic. The school nurses are always available for any questions.
Wilmington Public Schools strongly discourage our students from consuming energy drinks (such as Celsius, Prime, Alani, Ghost) containing high caffeine levels in the amount of 200 mg or more. These drinks can cause a rapid heart rate, headache, dehydration, insomnia and anxiety and are not recommended for individuals under the age of 18.
