4K in March 2026!

March is here and Spring Break is on the horizon!

March is usually a month of transition - with the weather and the students. Have you noticed how big your kids are getting??? They are growing so much and becoming so much more independent. It's when we start to turn a corner within the 4K classroom as well. We usually start to see more maturity and independence from them as well. We can start reading longer stories, ask them to sit a bit longer and stay more engaged in activities and we're able to keep their attention a bit longer. It's such a huge sign of growth in kids when this happens and that's what makes March such a fun time in 4K.

4K with Ms. Jacoby!

Our 4K friends at Cathedral have been making the most of February! We’ve loved getting outside to enjoy the fresh snow, building and creating together, and we even soaked up the brief warmer days mid-month. We had so much fun celebrating the 100th day of school by dressing up as 100-year-olds—what a sight to see! We recently wrapped up our exciting unit on Winter & Celebrations, and we are looking forward to diving into our new unit all about animals. We can’t wait to explore, learn, and discover together!

4K Family Night at the YMCA!

We had SO much FUN at the YMCA last week for our rescheduled 4K Family Night!

Ms. Kalley had shaving cream and crafts and activities in the 4K classroom, we had pizza dinner and of course we had swimming! I hope those of you who were able to join us had a BLAST! We were so busy we didn't get many pictures... but here are a few from the classroom fun!

Join us next month at Cathedral School for our Ocean themed crafts and sensory play!

Here are some activities you can do at home with your child!

  1. Story Walks: taking a walk around the neighborhood and have the child “read” signs, labels, or any print you encounter along the way. (e.g., street names, store signs, food labels, etc.)
  2. Interactive Storytelling with Picture Books: choose a picture book and ask your child to “read” the pictures before you read the text. Ask questions like “Can you find the tree?” Allow him/her to repeat words or phrases from the book.
  3. DIY Print on Paper: help your child create their own book by drawing pictures and adding words (or simple labels). When complete, have them read their book aloud. 0+6
  4. Name recognition: have your child point out their name on print, whether this is on some of their own work, in their room, on gifts, etc.,
  5. Simon Says, Book Version: give your child a book and play “Simon Says.. things like show me the cover of the book.”
  6. Read aloud with your child regularly. When doing so point to the words as you read them.
  7. Read the world around you. When doing errands, point out signs, logos, labels, etc., that are easy for your child to identify. Ask him/her to find specific pieces of print. For example, ask, “Where is the red “t”?
  8. Sentence Scramble: take a sentence from a book you are reading, cut it out into individual words, then, scramble the words and have your child put them back together into the correct order.
  9. Letter and Number Sort: cut out letters and numbers and mix them together. Then, have your child sort the letters into one pile and the numbers into another.
