QE Parent/Guardian Weekly Update
September 12, 2026
Hello QE Families!
We had a wonderful week full of learning, school spirit, and community. Our younger students showed effort during their foundational DIBELS literacy assessments, which help us measure reading fluency and guide differentiated instruction in the classroom. We also celebrated our first QE PRIDE assembly with singing, dancing, and a focus on showing perseverance, respect, self-control, dependability, and effort. It was fun to see all of QE gathered together, showing a positive school culture. Finally, we closed our week on a thoughtful note, coming together for a moment of silence in remembrance of 9/11. We will never forget the lives lost, and we encouraged students to honor the heroes who showed kindness by helping others in need. I hope your weekend is filled with kindness.

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Thank you for all your help in refining our arrival and dismissal procedures. For arrival, we will make a small shift in our time for students to exit their cars. PLEASE DO NOT have your children exit their car until our staff members are outside to greet them. Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and kindness so that everyone’s safety remains top priority.
To help us keep all students safe and maintain an efficient flow, please take time to review and follow the Arrival and Dismissal Procedures. Adhering to these steps ensures our staff can manage traffic safely and get our students where they need to be without significant delay.
Thank you again for working alongside us to establish procedures for a safe start and end to the school day for our kids!
Attendance Procedures
Here is a link to QCSD’s Attendance Procedures. All absences are required to be reported, and QCSD uses SafeArrival as our absence management system. If you have not set up an account yet, please do so at https://go.schoolmessenger.com. Parents can report their child’s absence 24 hours/7 days a week and future absences can be reported at any time.
School Counselor News
We know that success in school is about more than just academics. It’s also about building confidence, managing feelings, and getting along with others. During our Caring School Community morning time, we use the Second Step ® program. This research-based program will help your child learn important skills for school and life. Our lessons will cover how to manage emotions, practice empathy, and become great at problem-solving. Please see the attached letter for more information.
QE PRIDE
Teachers spent time during the past two weeks sharing lessons and reminders about our behavioral expectations, and we had a fun QE PRIDE assembly this week. We are always reinforcing our QE PRIDE expectations: Perseverance, Respect, In Control, Dependability, and Effort. Like last year, I will be on the lookout for “Dr. B’s Top 3 Showing PRIDE at QE,” and recognize students each week for all the ways they are showing QE PRIDE.
As you may know, our school uses a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework to guide our approach to student behavior. Think of PBIS as our way of creating a safe and engaging learning environment for every child. We believe that by clearly teaching our expectations and celebrating student success, we can help all students reach their full potential, not just academically but also socially and emotionally. Here is our QE PBIS Handbook for your review. QE is recognized annually by the state for being a school that implements PBIS with fidelity!
Our partnership with you is so important to us. We encourage you to talk with your child about what QE PRIDE means to them and how they can show it both at home and at school.
Back to School Night
We are excited to have families join us for our QE Back to School Night on Tuesday, September 15th. This event is for our 1st - 5th grade students and families since kindergarten already had their welcome event. We would love for this to be an engaging family night, so feel free to come with your children. Your QE student will get to show you around QE and together you can participate in a scavenger hunt!
Families should arrive at 6:00PM and head to your oldest child’s homeroom. Additional parking will be available at Morning Star Fellowship.
We can’t wait to see your family on Tuesday, September 15th at 6:00PM for QE’s Back to School Night at the Sixth Grade Center.
Classroom Diagnostic Tools (CDT) Assessment
Over the coming weeks, our students in grades 3-5 will be participating in the Pennsylvania Classroom Diagnostic Tools (CDT) assessment. Unlike a traditional test, the CDT is a computer-adaptive tool designed to give teachers a detailed snapshot of each student’s academic strengths and areas where they might need extra support or enrichment. The goal is simply to help us tailor our instruction to better meet your child's individual learning needs.
Please see the attached document, Information for Educators, Parents, or Guardians, for a complete overview of what to expect, how computer-adaptive testing works, and how this data is used.
Band and Orchestra sign-ups
Welcome back to school! If your student is interested in playing an instrument in the band (4th and 5th grade) or orchestra (3rd, 4th, and 5th grade), instrument sign-ups are open until Friday September 18. Please visit qcsd.org/music for more information and click on the yellow banner at the top of the page to register for band or orchestra. You can also reach out to QE's band teacher Mr. Murmylo (mmurmylo@qcsd.org) or orchestra teacher Mr. Wolfe (twolfe@qcsd.org).
Parent Organization - Partners in Education (PIE)
As we move into the new school year, please consider becoming involved in our parent community by attending our PIE, our parent teacher organization, meetings and events. We are open to finding ways to continue to involve parents/guardians to help create engaging learning environments that will promote student success. Thank you for your continued support as we work together as a school community to inspire our students to strive for and achieve their goals.
Our first meeting is Wednesday, September 16th at QE (6:30pm - 8:00pm). Here is the link for those who would like to participate virtually.
We are in need of Parent/Guardian Volunteers to help in the Library. We have books that need to be reshelved. Please email me at jbubser@qcsd.org if you are interested and we can create a schedule that works for you! Here is the link to review the necessary volunteer clearances.

About Us
At QE, we challenge our students academically and behaviorally through our state-recognized Positive Behavior Support Program, P.R.I.D.E. QE students are taught to persevere, show respect, be in control, show dependability, and show effort in all school and life endeavors. We believe every child is a valued and treasured member of our school family. You can trust that we are fully committed to ensuring your child feels respected, safe, and supported in their growth. When families, educators, staff, and students work hand-in-hand, we create the strongest path for our children to thrive and achieve their highest potential.
